Publisher's Summary

Syssi's paranormal foresight lands her a job at Dr. Amanda Dokani's neuroscience lab, but it fails to predict the thrilling yet terrifying turn her life will take. Syssi has no clue that her boss is an immortal who'll drag her into a secret, millennia-old battle over humanity's future. Nor does she realize that the professor's imposing brother is the mysterious stranger who's been starring in her dreams.

Since the dawn of human civilization, two warring factions of near-immortals - the descendants of the gods of old - have been secretly shaping its destiny. Leading the clandestine battle from his luxurious L.A. high-rise, Kian is surrounded by his clan, yet alone. Descending from a single goddess, clan members are forbidden to each other. And as the only other immortals are their hated enemies, Kian and his kin have been long resigned to a lonely existence of fleeting trysts with human partners. That is, until his sister makes a game-changing discovery - a mortal seeress who she believes is a dormant carrier of their genes. Ever the realist, Kian is skeptical and refuses Amanda's plea to attempt Syssi's activation. But when his enemies learn of the Dormant's existence, he's forced to rush her to the safety of his keep. Inexorably drawn to Syssi, Kian wrestles with his conscience as he is tempted to explore her budding interest in the darker shades of sensuality.

At 82,000 words, Dark Stranger: The Dream is a full-length novel but it is not a standalone. Kian and Syssi's story is a three-book series. In book four, Dark Enemy Taken, a new couple takes the center stage. Follow the cast of intriguing characters as they fall in love while fighting for the survival of their family, and get swept away into the world of The Children of the Gods.

Like having Optimus Prime read you a romance novel

A decent story line and characters are starting to be well developed in this first novel. The reader has a voice like Auto Bots leader, Optimus Prime, especially when he reads as the male romantic lead. His voice is very low, gravelly, and almost mechanical. I was able to get past it, but others may find it a bit off-putting. Still looking forward to the follow up novel though. If the guy who does the voice of Megatron is looking for other voice work, he could read the female parts of the novel and turn this whole series into a Transformers read romance novels thing...could be a million dollar idea audible...just sayin’

a must read for J.R Ward Fans

Paranormal fantasy, romance, suspense, dimensional characters & great dialogue. Loved it! Once I got started, as a member of Kindle Unlimited, I binge read the through #14. (I missed Kri & Michael but I'm waiting for the series to go on sale as a set) If you are a fan of fantasy, adult romance & suspense you will thoroughly enjoy the series beginning with Kian, Syssi & the clan. If you miss the beginning of the series, don’t worry; they can be read as stand alone. Each one will give you a peak or catch up from previous books. You may miss a nuance of the story but it will not prevent the understanding or enjoyment of it in any way. I can't stop and can't wait for future books in the series! I even dream about this series! A must-read for any JR Ward fan!

Great start

This was a good book to what I am forecasting as a great series. The narrator did a great job. He was not distracting in anyway and kept me engaged in the story. I only wish there was more sex.

Repeat, repeat, repeat.

The entire book was a repeating dialog. Girl wants boy but can't believe he would want her so she has naughty dreams instead. He shows he's interested and she runs.

Boy has deep dark secret but wants girl anyway. Tries to stay away but can't. She pushes him away.

THE ENTIRE STORY IS a repeat of this. Over and over.

If you like this vampire/species formula try Lara Adrian Midnight Breed Series or Laurann Dinner New Species series. Much more satisfying reads

Great idea but.....

It had potential but the sex scenes are lamely described. The male narrator’s female dialogue added to the creep factor, and I wanted to die everytime he said “wet panties”. The book is obviously written for a series as it ended before anything really happened. Bit of a bummer.

Syssi and Kian's beginning

I am enjoying the begining of this three book series staring Syssi and Kian. I like how Lucas is introducing these two main characters as well as others who are integral to the two main characters.

Syssi is hired as a lab assistant for Amanda, an immortal, due to her strong psych related skills and premonitions. She warned her boss Amanda of danger she felt would befall her and Amanda is soon involved in a car accident.

Kian's baby sister Amanda feels Syssi, with her special gifts, would be a great match for her much older brother and is determined to have them meet. Syssi may be the key to the source of finding comparable mates of these group of immortals and may have some dormant powers that may enable her to be a mate to Kian. Kian has been alone for thousands of years and has no time for a mate.
Syssi and Kian do meet and Syssi quickly finds herslf whisked into a centries old fued between two opposing groups of immortals.

Unfortunately there is another group of immortals known as DOOM that are mortal enemies of Kian and his group.

All the secondary characters are introduced in book one and brought back in books 2 and 3 to support Kian and Syssi's journey together.

Great book!

The story is good. A little too explanatory in some chapters and it takes getting used to the voice of the narrator. It jumps from characters a lot but it's easy to follow the story line. Has cliff hanger which means I am hooked and had to buy the next gook. Good thing is not expensive! I can't wait to listen to the next one.

somewhat juvenile...

The descriptions of events are somewhat juvenile and lack the proper foundation to encourage the reader to make a true connection with the characters and their predicaments. There are glaring holes in the plot and character reactions to situations are unimaginative and prescriptive. The narrator was basic and a bit over dramatic in parts that seemed to need a less dramatic response to carry the story. Overall, unless this is a free read it is not really worth the credit.

part one of a story/ book one

did not realise it was part of a series and therefore found it short and wanting, just about a stand a lone book. it was read very nicely and the jump from one characters head to another was nicely done. I love the growing relationship. As a audio book it will work out to costly for the series for me, I will look out for offers.

quite slow

The concept of the story is good but l found it way too slow. 4 - 5 chapters would have been enough to cover the story so far. l am interested to know what happens but it appears you have 2 more books to find out. lf l was reading a hardcopy rather than audible l would probably be flicking through it to speed the story up.

Great story but the narrator made me cringe

I really enjoyed the story but the narrator was really atrocious!!! I’m sorry that he seems to narrate a lot of this series but I don’t think I can stomach listening for the whole series which is a shame.
