I really enjoyed this! The low stakes and compassionate characters were relaxing and engaging, plus there was a little extra zing from the conclusion. The tavern setting was the perfect stage for a variety of interesting folk from the community to showcase themselves as they passed through it's door, and for the author to have fun crafting a range of lively individuals. Animal companions are always a positive and these were certainly appealing.

I appreciated how one of the MC's strengthened his bond to his deceased father by linking his new career to one of his father's passions. That was a nice touch.

The author did an amazing job building this world and filling it with solid magical and mundane figures. It was a fairly complex realm but I had no trouble slipping into the lives of the individuals and can see plenty of space for other adventurers and adventures.

The narrator was fantastic, easy to listen to with an accomplished range of voices and ability to add emotion.

I definitely recommend this book.

I loved this book and the performance. Low stakes fantasy is great for anyone like me who struggles with taking on the anxiety of a tense plot! This was a lovely and full story, and the characters will stay with me.

If you love Legends and Lattes you will definitely want to read this. I'm a sap for romance and this left me feeling so goey and warm I wanted to read it again straight away. The story is so sweet, there is something beautiful in a classic cursed hero who is unsure and a bit broody and sunny sweet and mischievous companion story, that just melts my heart. Couldn't fault the narration, character voices were distinct and the overall narration was smooth and easy to listen to. 10 out of 10 will read this again.
