Story
Years ago, Heart’s Eye, a school built on top of a nexus point, was attacked and captured by a necromancer. The nexus point was snuffed out, the handful of survivors forced to flee, and the once great school turned into a forward base for a necromantic invasion. All seemed lost, until Emily killed the necromancer and retook the school. Now, she intends to lay the building blocks for a university, a place where magical knowledge and mundane technology are brought together for the benefit of all. But dark secrets lie within the shadowed school.

Not the best book of the series.
Probably the worst. Clearly Emily is depressed in this book. It is just depressingly depressing. To paraphrase a movie. "this book went full depressed, full emo, never go full depressed, full emo" Audible's rating is: 1 Star is "not for me" 2 Stars "it is okay" 3 Stars "pretty good" 4 Stars "it's great" 5 Stars "I love it" How I see the stars. A one star book could be a very dry topic, story, crude or someone preaching down to the reader. I generally don't have 1 star books. I will just return them and go my own way. My last 3 were from the same series, I had hit a very dry spot in my listening. A 2 star story, would be something that was phoned in by a writer that typically has done much better work. I have a couple of reviews from authors that just seemed to phone it in, one most recently from an author that decided to mix current politics into his novel. If I wanted that, I would just watch the news. A 3 star review is where I really start. It means I enjoyed the book. That I did not have a hard time following it (I have lost alot of my conversational hearing). That the story kept to a plot, the characters were not static, and the world built was plausable. A 4 star review is something that I really enjoyed. It puts the author on my map to keep an eye out for. I go through 12-15 books a month. (audible is my primary source of entertainment. ) I will search for the author's works regularly, and seek out their stories for future purchases. A 5 star review, These are not as rare as one would think. These are the books where the characters grow, learn, act according to their nature. Where the world is not only plausible but believable. Where there are economic systems, businesses, rules of law that make sense. Where the story is woven is progressed and told with caring and dedication. These are books, series, authors and narrators that bring it all in a package. So, when reading my reviews, if anyone does, that is how I judge the books.

Cursed - Book 17, still a fan!
I really enjoyed this story- book 17. Having magic is not what makes Emily powerful. Emily is powerful because of her work ethic, courage, and willingness to not give up. Her magic is a direct result of all those things. How many people could lose what is thought to define them? How many would work hard and fight to regain? This book is an example of the challenges we face, how do we deal with them. Still a fan!

Absolutely amazing
I am in love with this book series and I am waiting with overwhelming excitement for the next book on audible to come out! This is definitely one of the best book series I've ever heard. The narrator does a fantastic job in the plot is absolutely amazing. With Egypt book I found myself getting deeper and deeper into the world. I have a disability that makes reading extremely hard and I depend on programs like audible and talk to text ect. I am completely in love with the storyline and I can't wait for the next one! It's been a few months since book 17 was released and I have my fingers crossed that they will complete the last two books on audible.

Cursed
I enjoyed this book, however I did not think this one held to Nuttall’s previous standard in this series. Cursed seemed like filler and buildup, rather than a full novel addition to the series. I liked a lot about Cursed as well, but I did not like the reversion of the MC to a weak shadow of the person she had become. I understood the point honestly but I did not like it. The performance was good, and even though I did not like the character reversion, Gilbert did a great job in making it believable. All in all I do not regret the purchase, but I could not mark this one as high as the rest and only gave 4 stars
