Publisher's Summary
As a leader in teaching, training, and transforming boys in Detroit, Jason Wilson shares his own story of discovering what it means to “be a man” in this life-changing memoir.
His grandfather’s lynching in the deep South, the murders of his two older brothers, and his verbally harsh and absent father all worked together to form Jason Wilson’s childhood. But it was his decision to acknowledge his emotions and yield to God’s call on his life that made Wilson the man and leader he is today.
As the founder of one of the country’s most esteemed youth organizations, Wilson has decades of experience in strengthening the physical, mental, and emotional spirit of boys and men. In Cry Like a Man, Wilson explains the dangers men face in our culture’s definition of “masculinity” and gives listeners hope that healing is possible.
As Wilson writes, “My passion is to help boys and men find strength to become courageously transparent about their own brokenness as I shed light on the symptoms and causes of childhood trauma and ‘father wounds’. I long to see men free themselves from emotional incarceration - to see their minds renewed, souls weaned, and relationships restored.”

Emotional Incarceration
Don't let the title of the book fool you to believe that it just for men. I believe this book should be intended for Single moms raising a young man, Fathers needing love from their father, women facing domestic violence the impact. As a single mom, of a black young man its hard at time. The book should be renamed "Emotional Incarceration" because we all have demons that hunts us in the past presence and future if we don't deal with the issue. The best part, is the bible verse that gave you guidance. Mr. Wilson stay you your path young man. Nicole stay strong sista, you are a incredible strong woman

It has help in so many ways to, improve my life and as well exposed the Insecurity in my life. and to know I'm not alone in this world with it but to help clean up my life. Jason Wilson is
Someone to admire, appreciate and be inspired by. His honesty and vulnerability in this book is beautifully put together as he tells his story of losses, failures, discoveries and servanthood to the Most High. I also appreciated his strength and confidence amidst addressing the importance of finding freedom from emotional incarceration for men and the training up of boys who, like him, have experienced various forms of trauma. Mr. Wilson is easy to listen to in the recording and the production itself was well done IMO. Would highly recommend this book.

Very powerful story... very skillful redemption.
this book is great because of the vulnerability that is explained at every stage of the author's life... in hindsight. because he had not yet mastered the management of his emotions, IN the actual moments, he was far more vulnerable and less powerful THEN. NOW his vulnerability is from a place of peace and strength. I'm constantly posting the link to this book and referencing this page all over social media to men who, its obvious are in emotional incarceration. I'm also speaking of Mr Wilson to weary women who hesitate or begrudgingly work on their own mental and emotional health because "who is working with these men?" I proudly say Jason Wilson.... that's who.... among others i know about. I'm grateful that God has called you to do this work and I pray you continue to thrive in it so that millions of men and boys are set free.

Outstanding
This book was transparent and so real. There were times that I had to pause the book because I was overwhelmed by the raw emotions that the author lived. I wish that I could give this book to every man I know, young and mature alike. This is such an excellent written book. I am definitely reading it again and keeping in my library.

This was a very enlightening and enjoyable read
I was pleasantly surprised at how detailed the book was and an excellent view of the male mind and how they process feelings. This is a must read for any wife dealing with her husband, a single mother raising a male child and all women dealing with a black male in general. Bravo to the author!

ENCOURAGING, INSPIRING!
I found Jason’s story to be quite healing and hope-inspiring too. Many men in today’s society can identify with father wounds therefore, this book would be very helpful to them. This is a narrative that many more should hear about!

An awesome account of a man's journey through emotional development... It challenges what it is to be a "strong" man or a "real" man. This was a great listen! 🖤

A MEN'S MUST READ!
I'm in no way religious and yes this book is grounded in his faith but the message within this book transcends his spiritual alignment it asks you to look within yourself in order to begin your healing process as a MALE young or old
