Demetrius and Cody, best friends since kindergarten, open Critter Catchers, an animal control business, expecting to catch and release the standard raccoons, possums, and squirrels. In short order, however, they find themselves also chasing down bigger and more dangerous things that prowl the night.

As they work to drum up enough critter business to keep the lights on, they also put their lives on the line to make sure their small hometown of Parson’s Hollow isn’t inundated with monsters. In this very affordable 4-book box set, cocky Cody Bower has left a string of angry ex-girlfriends in his wake, but he always has time for his BFF, Demetrius Singleton, who secretly yearns for him. Cody is also having thoughts about Demmy but doesn’t know how to process them. Cody and Demmy run a fledgling animal control service but they keep running into monster-size critters like werewolves (Terror by Moonlight), chupacabras (Chasing the Chupacabra), the Swamp Thing (Swamped by Fear), and flying terrors (The Devil of Pinesville). Will Cody and Demmy sort out their feelings for each other before a monster or bankruptcy gets them?

This is an amusing series, light on the horror / adventure and heavy on the slow-burn, will-they-won’t-they relationship. Despite my frustrations with them, I quite like the main characters, especially Demmy. I didn’t find the adventures too scary, I wouldn’t have minded situations that were more perilous and involved or that required harder / more complex solutions to resolve, but I enjoyed the easy reads. 🎧 US voice artist Zachary Zaba performs pretty well on the audios.
