Publisher's Summary

No one has benefited more from AI and Machine learning than the con artist. This 10-part police drama begins in Los Angeles with an investigation into a group of con men using machine learning to improve their scams and ends in Tibet with a long con involving reincarnation and an evolved artificial intelligence. With each chapter, the stakes rise higher as cybercrimes detective Sydney Birch peels back layer after layer of this complex scheme. A lot of the story and its details draw directly from current events and popular online conspiracy theories.

over all a great "read"

its so weird to hear such an unprofessional cop. as if she would be explaining all her food choices to her assistant!
but even with that i loved the storyline. no matter how far fetched it is. thats what sci fi is about right!
took me ages to work out that he was cheedie from a good life. i know i recognised the voice!

Convoluted, but quite intelligent.

The acting was pretty great, although the main character was a little annoying and unprofessional at times. The story was quite impressive and actually taught me lots of things I didn't know, but it was unfortunately also hard to follow at times and felt quite messy. More explanation and description was often required. Also, the ending is rather sudden and very open-ended. I personally would have loved more resolution and answers.

Like a Netflix boxset for your ears

High quality stuff. A plausible near-future detective thriller that taps into our (possibly well-founded) paranoia about social media, AI and cyber crime. It's not dissimilar to Dave Eggers' The Circle (great book, terrible film) and an extended Black Mirror episode. Convincing performances and snappy script. Quite a few references to hacker culture, which may be lost on some, but would highly recommend for an adult listener.

annoying narration

I'm not sure if the main point of the story was just one big advert for different foods. The story had potential but the narration was super annoying was convoluted enough without the food advert fillers. I would give this one a miss if I were you reading this.

You get what you pay for - and this is free

The story definitely has potential (though the ending is a little confusing). However, the format is incredibly annoying - it's basically the lead talking into a sort of note taker, which leads to a really kind of flat, one-sided story. Rather than scenes interwoven with monologues, it's a monologue with some scenes thrown in.

It doesn't get interesting until the 7th or 8th chapter.

It's free, so really what have you got to lose? Apart from 5 hours of your life. However there are much better dramatisations out there.

Mixed feelings!

Entertaining, pacy story which is no doubt based on some quite scary predictions about the potential use and threats of AI. However, the main protagonists’ performance wasn’t entirely convincing at times and I personally found the ending somewhat disappointing

my brain hurts now

i battled my way through 5 episodes of this boring production and then realised life is too short to waste on it. Maybe its an age thing and i am getting on a bit now, but this just seemed to waffle on about nothing for much of the time. so not for me but thanks audible.

You got to be kidding...

just answer me honestly - how long do you want us to wait for the next season/installment? cause I'm going to do NOTHING until season 2 is available. God this work is perfect! absolutely brilliant script that reaches out to the inner geek in me, yet manages to also satisfy my thirst for thrills, suspense and drama. PLEASE TELL ME THE NEXT SEASON IS COMING!!!

I havent listened to anything more boring recently

I couldnt even make myself to finish. The story is super boring. Its topic: evil social media and financial industry (plus unrelated remarks on streetfood and coffee art) is such a bad combination! I thought it was under S-F category but i must've been a mistake, no S-F themes discovered!
