Enjoyed most but do have one complaint

I have to say I did not like the way Phoenix was treated in this book. Being thrust with aching loss as the first major emotion he's ever experienced and everyone's just like 'stop being an ass' when he lashes out in anger? Not handled well at all.
That aside, I enjoyed the rest of it. The romance is being handled better than I was expecting and the grotesque demons are still wonderful. Very curious about what's going on with the school budget.
