On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

Gripping story start to finish
- By Mark Ashton on 23-09-2018
Publisher's Summary
For years, Mitch Rapp's bold actions have saved the lives of countless Americans. His battles for peace and freedom have made him a hero to many, and an enemy to countless more. In the tangled, duplicitous world of espionage, there are those, even among America's allies, who want to see Mitch Rapp eliminated. They have decided the time has come.
Now, the powerful father of a dead terrorist demands vengeance in its simplest form, an eye for an eye, and Rapp instantly becomes the target of an international conspiracy. This time, he must use all of his vigilance and determination to save himself before he can turn his fury on those who have dared to betray him.
Consent to Kill takes listeners behind the headlines and catapults them to the front lines of the global war on terror. It sizzles "with inside information, military muscle, and CIA secrets" (Dan Brown). Vince Flynn mixes military technology with his exclusive knowledge of Washington politics to create a hero that Americans will wish existed outside the realm of fiction.

Very good read!
This thriller was my first exposure to the author and to the hero. I liked them both. The understanding of the Saudi threat and of the Wahabbi mentality are first rate. A few technical slips by the excellent narrator (Anne Arundel county in MD is mispronounced, etc.) barely mar a superb reading. My only substantive critique is the very end (don't worry, I won't reveal it), where the epilogue just does not compute.

One of the Best Stories I've Ever Heard
I've been an Audible customer a long time and have listened to a lot of stories. This novel kept my interest the entire way. I thought the writing and narration were GREAT!
I'm one of those guys that has a very difficult time crying. My eyes were very wet at the end of this one, though. That's how emotionally involved I got with these characters.
"Consent to Kill" was my first Mitch Rapp novel. I could tell I had missed a lot of "history" and wished I had read some of the previous tales before this one. But my limited knowledge of Mitch's past didn't really create a problem. I still enjoyed the novel VERY much.

I want to read more books by this author.
This is a fantastic book with a first-class reader. Mitch Rapp is a CIA assassin charged with killing terrorists. He is an assassin with a conscience, at least for some people but not for terrorists. One of two assassins who has been hired to kill Mitch Rapp by a Saudi businessman also has a conscience, and through several twists of plot related to this person?s conscience, irony is added to the story. The book is believable and is easy to follow. The action is nonstop. Mitch Rapp never hesitates. Progressive politicians may not like this novel, since, like Tom Clancy, this author creates a world where it is not safe for a politician to lean to far of the left, especially if the politician through considered actions or malicious intent jeopardizes American intelligence operatives. It you like Tom Clancy you will also like this book and you will also enjoy Killing Rain by Barry Eisler.

What a great read!
This book was just a great deal of fun. Extremely tight writing, plenty of action, and a good dose of political intrigue. The characters are fairly one-dimensional with clear good-guy/bad-guy characteristics, but no more than other books of this genre.
As other reviewers have stated, I caught myself sitting in the car after arriving at my destination waiting to see what would happen next.
It won't tax your mind too much and you have to have some level of empathy for the current "war on terror" crowd, but if you can get past all that, you will not be disappointed.

Exciting Thriller
I did not leave off a star due to any fault of the book. This is a very fun and exciting thriller. I simply have to hold *something* back for the true masterpieces to set them apart. I enjoyed every second of this book. There is wonderful drama as Mick Rapp is out to settle a score with consent of the president. It is fun light reading. I don't *always* want to be reading heavy duty literature. This book is great brain candy which is NOT a bad thing. I enjoyed it so much I just downloaded another. I *so* associate Guidall's voice with the brilliant old man he narrated, Leo Gurtzgy, in "The History of Love" (which *is* a literature masterpiece) but I soon got over it. An older sounding voice can narrate the macho Rapp just fine. Guidall's voice has such a unique soothing quality to it. The man can narrate and Vince Flynn writes one riveting story. So I am buying another Vince Flynn Book because he sure can write and the narrator is fine. Enough said.

Best Flynn I've read to date
This is my second Vince Flynn book following the Mitch Rapp character. After Extreme Measures I was addicted. This novel answered lots of questions I had after reading the most recent one. The combination of the emotions of love and revenge along with the typical Flynn story made for an extremely compelling and exciting story. I'd reI'veI'vecommend this whether you've read others in the series or especially if it your first one.

I have purchased many books through Audible over the years and want to say that this title is amongst the best I have listened to. It literally dominated my weekend as I could not press the stop button on my player. One of the best stories and best narrators (George Guidall) I have heard. The narrator can make or break an audible book. Thank you Mr. Flynn for this gripping novel.

Nice intro to Flynn...
This was my first time reading Flynn and I must say I enjoyed it greatly. Sure it is a little over the top and completely improbable, but that's what makes it so much fun. I usually read the Connelly/Bosch and Child/Reacher novels. I am looking forward to adding Rapp to the mix.
