Publisher's Summary

Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump is a fascinating on-the-ground and behind-the-scenes survey of Donald Trump's ethics deficit on and off the golf course.

Renowned sports writer Rick Reilly transports listeners onto the greens with President Trump, revealing the absurd ways in which he lies about his feats and what they can tell us about the way he leads off the course in the most important job in the world.

Reilly has been with Trump on the fairways, on the greens and in the rough; he has seen how the President plays - and it's not pretty. Based on his personal experiences and interviews with dozens of golf pros, amateurs, developers, partners, opponents and even caddies who have firsthand involvement with Trump out on the course, Reilly takes a deep and often hilarious look at how Trump shamelessly cheats at golf, lies about it, sues over it, bullies with it and profits from it.

From Trump's ridiculous claim to have won 18 club championships, to his devious cheating tricks, to his tainted reputation as a golf course tycoon, Commander in Cheat tells you everything you need to know about the man.

The most entertaining audiobook I've heard in ages

This audiobook was fantastic. The style of writing, and the excellent narrator do it so much justice. I knew Trump was a cheat at everything in life, but I never knew he was this bad. The correlation between golf and him as a president is funny and terrifying! I didn't think I liked golf, but Reilly may have changed my mind. His book is full of well researched facts and he writes with passion. Absolutely 5 stars.

I just Shake My Head ......

I don't question the integrity of the writer but I do have to say even if half of this stuff was true or even a quarter then one must wonder how this guy got to run the free world. Entertaining Read.

Honest and illuminating

This audiobook both explains why Trump should never be allowed near the White House again while also explains how people fall his charm. The ripped off painter who voted for him anyway. Spoken with passion via the theme of golf, all without bias.

An Eye opener and leaves you shaking your head

Very interesting if you wish to see how Trump ticks. Some of the stories are simply unbelievable yet you know he did it. Does give some insight into the person.

Enjoyable book to listen too

Cheat and thief - Great book

Great book....Rick has a great sense of humour, I chuckled often, very entertaining and informative. Trump is a weak, pathetic pathological liar in all aspects of his life. Imagine living a lie like this ignorant narcissist

I wanna play golf!

I’ve had golf on the outer fringes of my life always there. But never really got past playing on sheep mown, pine cone littered, NZ public courses.
When I moved to Australia I was confronted with ‘The rules’ of a city golf course. And the sneers of those who had all the right clothing and equipment. At me. Who had but a rental set.
However. After listening to this book. I really want to play again!
Great job on the narration. I could tell it was from the heart.
And great job on the story. I got it all.

Trump’s a cheat on the golf course... its what we expect.

Donald Trump cheats on the golf course... just like he cheats in marriage. This book conveys the Presidents lifestyle to a ‘T’. What we get from the writer is an expose of the man warts and all. The overall story performance has a star rating of 10 out of 10.

Story about a broke old obese crazy person

This book would be very funny if the stakes wouldn't be so high. We have this insane old narcissistic conman with his finger on the nuclear trigger and a whole part of the establishment pretending not to notice. It really is Berlin 1932 all over again.
Thanks to Rick for giving us yet another heads up...

An important book, brilliantly narrated.

Narrated by the author. I believe this is Rick Reilly's first narration and he does a great job, bringing out the humour & the irony - but also communicating a barely-controlled rage (rightly so) in the really outrageous, horrifying sections. This is very refreshing, he really speaks from the heart - and his tag-on 'thank you' section at the end is quite moving.
Regarding the story: there are many laugh-out-loud/slap your forehead in disbelief moments in the first half or so. But then it gets progressively darker and more sinister as Trump's golf escapades both as a 'player' and as a businessman leech into real world situations: politics, foreign policy, humanitarian crises, personal relationships, ecology... I wasn't surprised by most of the antics described - I've followed Trump's career as a hardened liar and cheat quite closely - but there were still a few sections where I had steam coming out of my ears.
This book is a great historical document.
Such a shame that the world is stuck with a narcissistic, manipulative, cold-hearted, lying, cheating, self-serving POTUS for the forseeable future. I'm scared, how about you?

Laugh out loud funny - but scary.

I was a wee bit hesitant about a book about golf, but Trump’s golf shenanigans in Scotland attracted me. The author/narrator is amusing, with a good turn of phrase, and the range of stories told was enlightening.

Well researched and written

I know little about golf but I understand enough about the vanity of celebs and sports-people who are willing to turn a blind-eye to a cheat if there is gain in it for them. When you condone bad behaviour on a golf course you lose your moral compass along with the cheat's.

This book is so well written that it summarises the 'Commander' in such simple terms that you know he would not know loyalty, honesty or integrity if it stood in the middle of a green!

Well written about a lousy person.

Unsurprising but shocking

Nothing should be a shock after his presidency but it still is. The most shocking thing is that people of all types allow him to get away with it stating that playing with him is always ‘ fun’. It is time that people treated him like they would a low down cheat with NO money (if all his debts etc were called in he’d be in jail) instead of sycophantically pandering to his disgusting self for the ‘privilege’ of bragging about playing with him. To say he’s a 9 handicapper is ridiculous when apparently he’s never played a proper full round of golf let alone several rounds to verify his ability. You’d expect a hulking lump like him to be able to slam a long ball but it’s the short shots that win the game. The finesse of which he has none! Well done for publishing this. 76 million Americans should read or listen to it!

F*ck Donald Trump

The main point about Trump being an immoral person gets repeated quite a lot but that’s not exactly surprising considering how much of a tw*t he is.

Regardless, all the examples used in the book are interesting and I didn’t get bored of being reminded how sh*tty Trump can be

One of the best books I’ve read, easy listen and very engaging. Great narration. 5 stars.
