Publisher's Summary

What can history's greatest breakthroughs in science and technology teach us about the future?

New Thinking: The world has never been so unstable. Now, more than ever, we need to understand our history, learn from our mistakes, and embrace science and technology as we push into the future. In his debut book, New Thinking: The Technology and Science That Transformed Our World, Dagogo Altraide of YouTube's ColdFusion breaks down the history of gamechanger breakthroughs in the world of science and technology that have shaped our modern world and will impact the future.

Disruptive technology and innovation: The Industrial Revolution was the most significant event in human history since the domestication of animals and plants, leading to 50 years of growth and development making the western world almost unrecognizable. Today another revolution is taking place, and at its core is disruptive technology and innovation. It's clear that the pace of technology is increasing rapidly, and in the past 100 years, there has been more change due to disruptive technology than we could have ever imagined. The pace of this disruptive technology revolution is swift, almost exponential, but what's the story behind it? What were those special moments in time that changed the future forever?

From the steam engine revolution to the electric world of Tesla, the first photograph to the invention of the internet, this book explores the hidden secrets of science and technology to help us understand each gamechanger that has shaped the future.

In New Thinking: The Technology and Science That Transformed Our World, you will delight in learning about and appreciate:

  • How a technology can spawn a new technology and how they influence each other
  • How our modern world came to be
  • Our incredible modern world and potential for the future

Excellent book

I really enjoyed listening to this book. I expected the book to be narrated by Dagogo himself, but after going through it, they couldn't have picked a better performer. I am very familiar with most of the subject matter discussed in this book. I suspect for some, the book may feel like it's all over the place. To me the main thread was always New Thinking, if that's what you're looking for in this book. You won't be disappointed.

Incomplete

The first two chapters were interesting but it cut off at the end of the second chapter. I'm using a brand new Kindle Fire so I doubt that it's a hardware problem.I won't buy another Audible product

Selective and shallow

Too bad I wasted a credit on this. His manuscript needs more thorough fact checking. The book is a selective and cursory review of some of the 20th centuries more significant technological advances.

Excellent, just like all the YouTube videos

Of course there was a lot of old information but it was presented in a way that was different, interesting, and engaging. I also learned some new things.

A survey of modern science and tech

The title ‘New Thinking’ does very little to explain or reveal how or why scientists and investors advanced science and technology over the last 120 years. What you get is mainly a boring recitation and list of inventions by decade since the 1900 save the inventions of steam power and electricity in the 1800s given in the early part of the book. The connection to why morse code was invented is somewhat interesting because of the death of the inventor’s wife. But other than a few such examples the rest of the book leaves no real connection in the thinking methods or theories that drove these great people who moved civilization forward in these fields. I cannot recommend this book.

A great and easy way to learn the history of technology

The book is very well written and I really love how it mentions all the individual icons behind technology such as Steve Jobs. I also love how it tells the story about what the inventor had to go through in order for their inventions or products see the light of day as well as explaining the pros and cons about certain types of inventions and products. The story is brief and has a decent amount of information and I really hope that sequels to this book happens at every start of a new decade in order to keep the readers updated about what is going on in the world of technology.

phenomenal narrative of history

I've picked up this book after finishing Sapiens and Guns, Germs and Steel. And I was pleasantly surprised on this very unique take on the history thru the tiny stories of the great minds of the last few hundreds years. I loved the way the book ends summarising how the boulder has started rolling and picked up speed. There are many ways one can look at what's happened and what might happen in future. This one is a geek's take which I found quite inspiring and reassuring.

An inspiring look back to inspire the way forward.

A really interesting look back at poignant moments in history. A lot of well researched pieces and discovering people and moments I had never knew of before. The ones that I did know of were broadened and expanded my prior knowledge. If you know of Cold Fusions channel I highly recommend this. I still recommend if you hadn’t. Then go look him up ‘cause he’s brilliant.
