How can a child vanish without a trace?

Last night, 8-year-old Daisy Mason disappeared from a summer party at her home. No one at the party noticed her leave. Even her parents aren't sure of the last time they saw her. DI Adam Fawley is trying to keep an open mind. But he knows that in nine cases out of ten, it's someone close to the victim.

When a pair of bloody tights is discovered, Fawley's worst suspicions are concerned.

Someone knows where Daisy is.
And her time is running out.

Introducing DI Fawley and his team of Oxford detectives, Close to Home is the first in the new crime series readers and authors are raving about.

Great read

Really enjoyed this book. Couldn’t put it down. A lot of speculating and getting it wrong, even right to the end!

You'll never guess who done it!

I really enjoyed listening to this, thought I had it figured, but no,very clever . Great use of different voices and some truly unpleasant characters. The only thing that I loathed was the 'tweets'. Skipped over them in the end

Blindsided Investigators?

I (mostly) liked this book but there were just too many times that the Investigators appear taken aback by an event or detail which I can't believe would not have become evident long before it did or before they realised their mistake. Either it is completely realistic and the police so underfunded and incompetent in Britain that mistakes and oversights are inevitable or it was a way to make the individual police more human and prone to error.

The narrators are terrific.

Hard slogg

Omg save me. This book was a hard slogg. Boring story, unlikeable characters, the missing daughter her age didn't match her behaviour. The parts with Facebook's posts were annoying. As for the twist, really.

So many twists and turns!

Just when you think this mystery has been solved - another twist! I felt really sorry for the detectives! The story resolved well because it did explain one fact which was thoroughly annoying me and which was making me feel cranky about the author.

However I agree with another reviewer - the reporting of the social media remarks was terribly annoying and really pretty immaterial to the story. If one was reading the book, one would skim over all the web references. No need for them.

The reading was well done.

I did find that skipping back from the event was a bit confusing, especially since if, like me, you tended to fall asleep - and would then have to scramble to work out where you were up to.

Nevertheless, a good book.

A Real Pager Turner!!!

By far the best crime, detective, police novel I’ve ever read! More twists and turns than I could have imagined but all totally believable once the reader is familiar with the characters. Highly recommend this book.
