About this listen
When Charles Morris is forced into retirement, the old multinational company CEO has to accept that it is all over. The days of running his financial empire have finally come to an end. All because of a stupid heart attack. Now what is there for him to do but to curl up in a corner and die?
While Charles is attending a fundraiser, however, something happens and he's transported into a strange medieval world where magic is real and legendary heroes coexist with mythical monsters.
Follow Charles as he takes on the challenge of a lifetime. Follow him as he builds roads and shops, hires heroes, develops alliances with neighboring villages...but also fights terrible foes while struggling to maintain the Happiness and Satisfaction levels of his village in the positives.

This guy just trades away everything or buys off his aggressor with what seems to be an unlimited wallet. He will say his funds are low, yet out of the blue he finds more and more money, explaining it away like it was there the whole time.
I also find the main character himself, very cold. Feelings like sadness, anger, happiness seem to be way over his head. There is no personal growth. At least not much in the span of the first five books. He wants something, he finds a way to get it no matter the cost. Then he makes bucket loads of gold so he can fund more outlandish or problem making ideas.
Overall, the books aren't bad. You can get hooked on a fair few plot points and you need to know what happens next. I just wish the writer had gone for a less cynical approach to his story.
Great Idea, Not so much a great story

It’s interesting and I’ll give it 4 stars just because it’s somewhat unique

The whole series legitimately feels like an endorsement of exploitative capitalism. The protagonist supposedly has morals, but they're so hypocritical compared to his actions that he just seems like scum. Not to mention how f**kn stupid he becomes at times, assuming that other people will have the same base need for wealth that he has.
A wannabe businessman wet dream
