Jadis, Elantris était splendide. On l’appelait la cité des dieux, elle rayonnait de pouvoir. La légende dit que ses habitants étaient immortels. Force, vitesse, perspicacité : ils pratiquaient la magie d’un simple mouvement de la main. On venait de très loin pour admirer Elantris et profiter de ses richesses.
Jadis, le Shaod était une bénédiction. Magie bienveillante, elle frappait au hasard, souvent la nuit, aussi bien le voleur que le marchand, le noble que le guerrier, hommes, femmes et enfants. Ceux qui étaient choisis ne vieillissaient plus et pouvaient vivre dans les murs d’Elantris, une vie libre et éternelle.
Cette éternité a pris fin il y a dix ans.
