About this listen

The first book in the historical Kingpriest trilogy, which chronicles the origins and development of a noted figure from the Dragonlance Legends trilogy, linking this new series to one of the most popular trilogies in the entire Dragonlance saga.

The Kingpriests have reigned for centuries in the name of Paladine, the supreme god of good. But danger lurks in the empire's heart. The Kingpriest has foreseen his own death, and dark forces converge on the Temple, vying to control the throne.

Following a prophetic dream, a high priestess of Paladine sets forth in search of a worker of miracles, one who can lead the way to the triumph of light over darkness: the Lightbringer, the true chosen of the gods.

I started this series due to the Kingpriest Trilogy having been recommended to me as one of the stronger "non-core" Dragonlance series.

I found this book hard to get into initially to the point where I was wondering what all the fuss was about but warmed to it much more as the story progressed. In fact it almost felt as if the writer had changed part of the way in and the whole story made more sense.

Due to this disjointedness I'd rate this story 3.5/5.

On the whole it is better than a lot of other Dragonlance novels but more importantly you really need to read it to understand the background of the characters who carry over into Book 2 of the series. Book 2 is a superior book and made me glad I slogged through the first half of this novel.

The Narrator did a good job with many characters being voiced theatrically with accents, etc which is something I like as opposed to a straight read. I couldn't detect any mispronounced names to grate my nerves although not having read the source material they may have slipped by me but this audiobook appears to be "Strum free".

Read it because it sets up Book 2
