About this listen

An opposites-attract, ice queen lesbian romance about finding the softest of hearts behind the highest walls.

Newly minted high school teacher Lily Cross is young, bubbly, and can’t wait to put her fresh ideas into practice in the classroom. Her excitement is derailed after a disastrous run-in with a colleague. Lily didn’t realize she’d have to win over her fellow teachers as well as her students, but that’s okay. Lily’s up to the challenge.

Disillusioned Eva Thomas never imagined she’d wind up as a teacher in her hometown, or worse, suffer the boundless, puppy dog enthusiasm of a new colleague. Eva has no interest in making friends—or making nice. She just wants to survive her day and be left alone. That’s easier said than done when Lily Cross has you in her sights.

Their clashing arguments lead to sparks and then the impossible…attraction. But how can two such different people ever work?

Predictable storyline and I enjoyed the banter between the two main characters and also the other characters. Also enjoyed the premise of focusing on LGBTQ plus support in schools and that is not always present. And it takes at least one person to just take a stand and help kids out which I think is good.

Fantastic storyline and narration. The character development of both Eva and Lilly was amazing! I wish there was a sequel!

Chemistry plus!

Enjoyed the different approach to the theme of how woman meets woman by setting it in a dating app with them unknowingly familiar with each other.

Such a cute story of the hardened, embittered older teacher who is reluctantly charmed by the new, (first job), Chemistry teacher into learning the true meaning of how opposites attract in a personal way. The chemistry between the two protagonists is palatable.

"Chemistry" is about the walls that we build around our fragile heart when we fear the rejection of others. However, ultimately, loneliness will tear down these walls to eventually let love in.

I loved how the relationship developed over time without the prejudices of sight (not a big fan of insta love). Yes, there were (the usual) setbacks, but loneliness (the yearning for another) constantly propels one reluctant partner into a loving relationship. Also, I appreciated how each of the partners pet behaviours predicted the personality traits of their prospective perfect partners.

The storyline is well developed. The narrative sucks you and keeps you captive throughout the tale. I didn't find any dull or repetitious content. Indeed, I listen to certain chapters again because I wanted the enjoyment to remain.

The narration is marvellous: a good range of strikingly different vocal characters with superb expression. A thoughtful, skilled and exceptional reading.

I utterly enjoyed this audiobook.

A Most Enjoyable Listen.
