Worth a listen!

While I struggled to really immerse myself in the first book, I really got into this one.

The story feels a lot more fleshed out, and the many new characters help get a better sense of the world Danny lives in.

Looking forward to starting book 3!

More action in this great steam punk adventure

Danny has just finished saving the love of his life, clock spirit Colton Bell, but there’s no time to rest on his laurels as Danny and Daphne are sent to investigate terrorist attacks on clock towers in India that haven’t caused time to stop. Meanwhile letters threatening Danny’s life cause Colton to leave his frozen clock tower to chase after Danny. Nothing will be easy as India is a power keg of suppressed rage and rebellion against Victorian England’s rule. Can they avert widespread bloodshed and save the clock towers?

This is the 2nd in a very exciting and creative steam punk YA trilogy and can’t be read as a standalone. Once again there’s a lot happening as Danny, Daphne and Colton each have joint or separate adventures against the backdrop of febrile colonial India. Tara Sim doesn’t shy away from exploring the moral issues of colonialism and race relations and the ethics of sacrificing the few for the many—there are definitely no easy answers. There was a lot less romance and the story was less sweet than the first book, but the action and intrigue filled in the gaps. UK voice actor Gary Furlong was at his excellent best on the audiobook (the trilogy is currently free on the Audible Plus catalogue).
