About this listen
Half-shifter Shaya Critchley may hold a submissive role in her wolf pack, but the petite redhead refuses to let an Alpha male interfere in her life. Furious and humiliated after her mate refused to claim her, she runs off to hide among the humans. Why wait around for an Alpha male to love her when he’d obviously prefer to ignore her?
Nick Axton can barely control his urges for Shaya, but the Alpha can never claim her — not if he truly cares for her. His degenerative brain condition will eventually destroy him, and he’s afraid of turning his mate into his caretaker. Yet when Shaya runs away, Nick can’t let her go. He pursues her, vowing to finally claim his rightful mate. And despite Shaya’s spirited and passionate resistance, Nick’s fiery determination just might be the ultimate aphrodisiac.

Read through KU whilst also flicking and listening to the audible version too. What a great idea to Read and Listen. Very handy using my headphones when doing stuff around the house. I don’t lose the flow of the story.
Will be buying all the audible books over time.
I have to say the narrator for this book was one of the best with an enjoyable narration. Lots of inflections and I could tell most of the characters apart.
BOOK REVIEW
Nearly a DNF due to the whiny, annoying heroine.
If not for the fact I had read book one in the Mercury Pack and wanted to know the back story, I would not have finished this book.
I started off liking, admiring and feeling sorry for Shaya.
By the half way mark I ended up thinking she really was an emotionally challenged idiot. Her continual woe is me, everyone leaves me and I’m not good enough for Nick attitude really got on my nerves by the time we were to chapter 8.
Her insecurities and Mummy issues carried on throughout the whole story. By the time her head was out of her a** at 95% into the story, I didn’t care and wished Nick could get a different mate.
Yes, Nick had been an ass and the fact he still hadn’t told her all the truth about why he didn’t claim her was annoying, but I nearly stopped reading when Shaya was playing with Nicks emotions, by deceptively and purposely going on a date with someone else.
Nick really was an idiot in not claiming Shaya but he had semi valid reasons.
He at least was really trying to apologise and prove he was serious about claiming Shaya and was quite honourable in trying to not tie her to a sick mate.
Shaya has some ridiculous twin loss emotional crap from when she was in the womb and uses the fact her first boyfriend, from 10 YEARS previously, was a complete user/loser to excuse her abandonment and trust issues.
She really had no valid reasoning for her behaviour.
She then pushes away her TRUE MATE, due to hurt feelings.
Thank goodness the other characters and the actual plot were entertaining.
We did get some other woman drama which was dealt with too easily and quickly. It was also easy to know what Amber had NOT been doing. The same with the two main baddies.
What was the deal with Shaya’s parents, her mother was nasty and neurotic, her father was plain weird.
Read through KU whilst also flicking and listening to the audible version too.
I started with this author reading the first Phoenix Pack book which was okay. Months later I picked up the 1st Mercury Pack book. I enjoyed that enough to start reading them in the correct order.
Great Narration. Annoying heroine.
