Publisher's Summary

What would you do if no-one was watching?

Rachel is afraid she may have done something terrible. She's sitting in a room, being asked whether she killed someone.

She doesn't understand how her life has changed so completely. When she was younger, heads would turn when she walked into a room. Her children needed her; her husband adored her.

But somehow the years wore that all away. She was so busy raising her children, looking after her parents.... She can barely remember the woman she used to be, the one whose husband told her she was out of his league. The woman she is now just does the laundry and makes the dinner, and can walk into a room without anyone knowing she's there.

She knows that she hated feeling invisible. She knows that she thought: what would it take for you to see me again? What if I did something no one thought I was capable of?

Can You See Her? is an utterly compelling and unputdownable psychological thriller, about how far you can push a woman before she will break. Perfect for fans of Gillian Flynn, A.J. Finn and The Silent Patient.

Could not stop listening!

Fascinating story with an unusual protagonist--a middle aged woman. Her description of her life absolutely rang true for me. Kept me guessing. Off to read more by this author. Great narration, too.

Slow start. Writing is compelling & profound

There is a substantial amount of dialogue. Especially in the beginning chapters. It reads more like a screenplay than a novel.

The writing is profound, almost prophetic in the way it calls the reader to look inward for a healthy dose of self reflection and awareness.

Soooo much dialogue.

The minutia of someone's every rambling thoughts told by way of therapy sessions make up 99% of the book. Mental health issues are over generalized, and conflated. Do yourself a favor, skip to last five chapters.

Disappointing

I kept thinking I’d get to a point where I was gripped by the story. Only an hour left and I just feel I’ve already wasted too many hours on it and am giving up.

Good Psychological Thriller

I'm always wary when the publishers feel the need to include words like: "An Absolutely Compelling Psychological Thriller" as part of the title! It's normally a sign that this isn't quite 5-Star material and needs selling!

It was a good listen for most of the way through, not hard to follow, lots of intrigue about where it was going. That part was all positive. Then with an hour to go, it felt like things were all wrapped up, the twist was rather predictable. Surely there must be another? ...Without giving anything away, I thought that the final hour wasn't as good as the rest of the book.

The story revolves around the Edwards family. Rachel Edwards is in police custody being interviewed, murders have occurred and Rachel feels that she will soon be locked up as a result. The interview continues for most of the book as the truth gradually emerges.

An exceptional mix of thrills and compassion

I loved this story - and it is a proper story, in that although it’s essentially a psychological thriller it’s brilliantly interwoven with the beautifully described emotions of an engaging protagonist. The story twists and turns til the end, and is movingly narrated. Highly recommend.

A woman in her 50s with many troubles

Without any disrespect intended, this is what the book is about. I doubt any man or anyone under 50, would finish listening as the main character is going through menopause and there is a lot about how she feels (whereas many women over 50 would empathise). It's a long book (considering the story) and it could probably have been cut by 1/3 and there would be no difference. Not the usual SE Lynes style book I have always enjoyed.

Wow!

I had this in my phone reminders list to buy as soon as it came out and I’ve just finished listening to it. It absolutely blew me away. S E Lynes is a brilliant, insightful author and the story is absorbing and emotive with a good twist. The narrator was outstanding. Thoroughly recommend this.

6*!

A wonderful book. Emotional and heartbreaking. Beautifully written and narrated. I wouldn’t compare it to the authors mentioned in the details, they too are talented writers but this is a very different type of story I think.

terrible ending!

I thought this book should have ended about 5 chapters in! stupid ending that dragged on and on and reached a very unlikely conclusion. was ok most of the way through but ended up stupidly far fetched.

Fantastic!!

Love Tamsin as a narrator. If she is the narrator I’ll chose the book! S.E.Lyons best book to date! Can do relate to it. Great story. Heartbreaking. But very real.
