Editorial Reviews

Laurann Dohner's vision of an intergalactic future, with its fleshed-out history and cultural tensions, sets the stage for dark master/slave fantasies to play out in unexpected ways. Mindy Kennedy's performance captures both the rawness and the sweetness of the emotional roller coaster Mira and Flint are forced to ride as their different worlds collide in equal parts pleasure and pain.

Sure to satisfy fans of Dohner's New Species and Mating Heat series, Burning Up Flint is a quick and sexy listen that's difficult to pause as it teases listeners with the question of whether this budding cyborg-human romance can survive.

Publisher's Summary

Flint is tall, gorgeous and dangerous. He’s a cyborg - the absolute ultimate alpha male. He takes what he wants and holds what is his. Mira is his now. He takes her aboard his ship and has her branded with his mark. He captured her, owns her, and she will serve his every need.

Mira is instantly drawn to Flint, fascinated by his seductive appeal. The sex between them is smoking hot. Until she finds out he is a breeder, contracted to a dozen cyborg women, and she is no more than a possession.

Mira won’t share her cyborg and she belongs to no one - not even to a man who has captured her heart. She doesn’t know if cyborgs feel... anything. Can Flint love her? Mira is determined to find out, no matter how much trouble she makes for the big guy.

Reader Advisory: This book contains a sexy, voyeuristic bondage scene in which Flint generously demonstrates his sizzling skills for the benefit of another cyborg.

Barbaric

Their supposedly became more human than cyborgs that is why they revolt against human, but the way they treated human females is barbaric and abusive there's enough violence against women in the world without doing it on books as well, this book is no fifty shades of grey, there is no consent given by the females (victims), they humiliated them and teat the females like property and sexual slaves, this book made
Me sick in my stomach and very angry, Laurann Dohner i am very disappointed and sad (i loved your species series) so i thought this would be good but instead i was horrified to listened to this audiobook :( but kudos for Mindy Kennedy for an excellent narrative.

OMG! What have I been missing...

So, I refuse to listen to this at first, because of the bad reviews... Some said you could skip this book and start with book 2, you wouldn't miss much... WRONG!

This book was so dang good. Flint is like my favorite Cyborg now. He was so sophiscated and smexy... Such a dominate romantic! Love it. The smex in the book blew me away.. the tub scene! WHAT!!!

Now that I have listen to this book, after listening to book 2-5... So much of the story makes scene now. Book 2 happens right at the end of this book or rather starts around the same time Flint returns to Garden... then book 3 happens while this book is taking place. And book 4 happens when book 3 is taking place...at the same time. And book 5 begins right where book 4 leaves off.

Yes, all the storys are stand alone...but it makes better sense if you read/listen to them in order...

Great Buy, sale or credit... This on is a keeper... Makes me wanna get me a cyborg!

Narration was great...

OMG! ~ 5 Smokin` Hot 5 Stars !

Wow! Laurann Dohner knows how to do erotic stories perfectly!

I'll admit, in the beginning I was on the fence on this story; it was borderline "forced seduction" or "rape." Since I am very sensitive to rape situations, I had to see how the story progressed before I either decided I loved it or hated it. In the end, I fell in love with the story!

Flint is a cyborg and does not understand human emotions. He used to be property so in his mind, when he took Mira, brands her and makes her his property, this is just how it is and she has to accept it. I could see how some would find this offensive but Flint in is own way, did what Mira to be comfortable, happy and in the end fell in love with her.

But Oh My, the sex scenes... wow.....just....WOW.

I will definitely continue this series, but this is one those stories that may not be for everyone. It's a very erotic sci-fantasy slightly on the dark side but at the core does have a decent plot.

Some People Don't Get This Book

And that's okay. Not every reader gets every book, and I'm happy to listen to all opinions and engage in debate on books (my favorite topic). But I have to disagree with readers who think Ms. Dohner writes "rape". She doesn't.

In the romance genre, it's called "forced seduction" -- and whether some readers like it or not, it's a HUGE female fantasy and a sub-genre of romance all on its own. And Ms. Dohner is the current reigning queen of the genre. Remember this book is erotic fantasy romance and the book is fantastic.

All I care about is whether or not I enjoy the books and the actions therein, and I do. And I don't psychoanalyze myself for it. Because it IS fantasy. I don't read romance books to learn an author's moral stances or lessons on politics, religion, etc. I read nonfiction for that. I read romances for the completely unrealistic happy-ever-afters; for a chance to escape. And for a chance to indulge in a taboo fantasy (like forced seduction) in the only safe place I can do so...within the pages of a book.

Rock on, Ms. Dohner. Thanks for leaving the perpetually pregnant, destitute heroines and the billionaire heroes to Harlequin writers, instead giving us books we're not supposed to want but can't wait to listen too!

Mindy Kennedy was outstanding with the delivery of the story.

Sci-Fi-normal Romance

Take JR Ward's Brotherhood or Lara Adrian's Breed, blend with "Bladerunner" to exchange vampire for cyborg, punt them into space, and you have a good idea what to expect from Laurann Dohner's new Cyborg Seduction series.
Cyborgs were created by Earth scientists and when the cyborgs proved to be too powerful, the Earth Authority sends them on suicide mission. When cyborgs begin refusing these "missions," the Earth Authority terminates All cyborgs. Or so they wish everyone to believe...
Fast forward several decades and the surviving cyborgs have established a tenious toe-hold in the Galaxy. Space Salvage is a major component of their survival resulting in cyborgs in space. The format of the story progresses along this kind of story line. A strong Alpha Male character cruises through space fighting "space pirates" and the Earth Authority and despite incredible odds, finds his corresponding "soul-mate." But finding her is just the beginning of the tale and getting to their "happy-ever what-ever" has its own set of obstacles.
I don't want to go into specific details but I'm a real fan of the self-contained happy conclusion novel. I enjoyed not only this book but several other books in this series so I can confidently recommend this book (series).
I'm a sucker for positive endings so sue me

It's ok

It was okay but it could have been way better. Some of the plot is unbelievable but it's sci fi so anything could happen I also would've like to see some character growth.
Like I said it's an alright listen. Some will love it some not so much.

Had to turn it off, I'm returning it

I LOVE the New Species Series by Laurann Dohner so I thought I would give cyborgs a try. I was hesitant because it is under 7 hours and I don't like to use a credit on such a short book, I should have listened to myself!

The leading lady is TSTL, and goes from fearing being raped to "falling" for her capture in under 6 hours. When she threw a hissy fit that he not sleep with other women their first night together, knowing she was judged as property by him I just couldn't continue. I have an eye rolling quota, and this book exceeded it in under 2 hours.

Maybe for a sale, never for a credit or a buy, on the bright side the narrator was good.

Interesting Premise...

Promising start to a new series by Laurann Dohner. I'm not quite sure if I like the beginning of this series as much as the New Species series; but, I am willing to give the second book, Steel, a chance. It takes a little getting use to this space premise.

I kind of liked Flint in this story. He is again another lead character who simply cuts right to the chase so there is no misinterpretation.

Of course L D doesn't disappoint in the erotic romance department. She is true to form with this one. Mindy Kennedy does a great job narrating the story.

It is a pleasant listen for those who enjoy steamy romances.

Smoking Hot Cyborgs!!

This book was super intense, and had my mouth flying open in shock in one moment, panting in another moment, and laughing at the next! The sex, the rules and Cyborg pacts, the perspectives of the Cyborgs...it was such a crazy ride. The narrator did a great job as well, I hadn't heard of her previously but I'd definitely purchase another book narrated by her. There's plenty of sexy love scenes that will light you on fire, and I so enjoyed the sarcasm and dry humor throughout. I listened in one sitting--I just wanted to know what craziness was going to happen next.

I think this is another winning series for Laurann Dohner. I'm still enjoying her New Species series, however, I thought I'd change it up a bit and try one of her other series...I'm so glad I did. As for credit worthiness, I think the cost was reasonable so I would just buy it.

Sexy Cyborg and Sassy Human fall in love :)

Any additional comments?

Right from the very first page, the very talented author Laurann Dohner sets the stage for a seductive new series that features sexy and dangerous Cyborgs and the human women destined to be their mates. Ms. Dohner entices the reader in this tale with her ability to enhance each scene by using descriptive details that are highly erotic and often a whole lot imaginative and a little out of this world for the reader's full enjoyment. With an added twist here and there the danger, adventure and sinfully sensual delights in this story will keep the reader anxiously turning page after page in this entertaining story. The rich and strongly-defined characters are intriguing and appealing, although the battle of wills clash as well as the conflicts between Flint and Mira grows somewhat tiresome after awhile. The bond between them feels a little off, mostly due to Flint's abrasive, domineering and cold attitude towards Mira although by the end of the story Flint's whole demeanor has changed showing a tender and playful side that is sexy. Mira is a refreshing, feisty and intensely emotional heroine who is passionate and just a little sassy. The story is eccentric enough in its other world setting that the characters interaction can l enjoyed from a fantasy standpoint. Between Flint and Mira, the sexual tension is smoking and the sex is playful and sizzling hot.

Ambivalent

I'm ambivalent regarding this novel. On the one hand, the character development is great as well as the setting. On the other hand, this is a story about a girl being kidnapped then developing Stockholm syndrome. It doesn't matter if the girl comes - it's still rape!

Entertaining book 1

Really, same reviews for all these books!

Unusual. Badly written but still fairly erotic.

Engineered super warrior people created on Earth, now hiding from humans in space. Lots of buff, silver men with big muscles and big... um... everything, apparently. Human woman comes along, shows him how to be in love etc etc while they have lots of explosive, steamy sex.

As mentioned - badly written but entertaining...

this is not a bad book, I enjoyed. I read the 'New Species' books first before going for this book and I have to say that I like the new species books better, but I will read the other books within this series as well as I said I did enjoy reading this book.
