Publisher's Summary
"Within my body are all the sacred places of the world," the Buddhist saint Saraha once said, "and the most profound pilgrimage that I can ever make is within my own body."
For 15 centuries the realized masters of the tantric path used the crucible of their own lives to develop a powerful and accelerated means to enlightenment. Today these teachings remain alive within the usually hidden inner courtyard of the Vajrayana vehicle of Tibetan Buddhism, a tradition that requires the courage to engage your body, your human desires, and your most challenging life obstacles as the basic fuel for insight. Now, with Buddhist Tantra, esteemed teacher Reggie Ray introduces you to these precious teachings and invites you to explore the path to naked and unprecedented experience. The popular or exoteric teachings of Buddhism are known to many, yet its esoteric teachings remain relatively unknown in the West. If you have been seeking a gateway to this potent tradition, Buddhist Tantra is an unsurpassed opportunity to enter into the temple of its deepest truths.
Entering the Vajra World Through the Vehicle of Your Body
The word tantra means "to weave through", a metaphor that points to the vibrant fabric of intelligent and living energies that make up the essence of every cell of your body, every fleeting thought you have, and every particle of the universe. Entering this undefiled and ever-renewing vajra world is the promise of the tantric path.

So many precious gems of wisdom in this book.
This book was instrumental in deepening my practice in breathing, holding space and understanding our spiritual experiences. There is great wisdom in his interpretation of great ancient teachings and how they apply to our chaotic, hectic Western lives. Every time I listen to a chapter I hear different points. I would strongly recommend adding this to your collection.

New Age BS about Tantra
What would have made Buddhist Tantra better?
If it had been from an authentic Tantra lineage.
What was most disappointing about Reginald A. Ray’s story?
A self-styled expert peddling ill-researched information.
Would you be willing to try another one of Reginald A. Ray’s performances?
No
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Buddhist Tantra?
If you want to learn about Tantra read the following books:
-The Roots of Tantra 1st Edition
by Katherine Anne Harper (Editor), Robert L. Brown (Editor)
-How to Practice: The Way to a Meaningful Life
by Dalai Lama (Author), Jeffrey Hopkins (Editor, Translator)
-The Life of Milarepa
by Tsangnyon Heruka and Andrew Quintman
First book should satisfy your intellectual urge if you are a scholarly type. Second book is practice oriented book from Dalai Lama. Third book is deeply philosophical, insightful and uplifting hagiography of a Tantric saint. It covers both legendary and mundane aspects of Tantric practice and is a pleasure to read.Once you have investigated for a year and decide that Tantra is for you, find a teacher from an authentic unbroken lineage which can trace itself back to the likes of Asita or his contemporaries. Fall at his feet to find oral transmission. He will give that to you only if he feels you are ready for it.There is nothing exotic or sexual about Tantra. The part that is "sexual" is 0.01% part of it and quite honestly over-hyped and most abused aspect of Tantra.Avoid New Age "experts" like this author. Otherwise, you will quickly grow weary and leave the path after sometime.

Not for me. This book just left me sad.
I love Trugmpa Rinpoche"s books but this one just didn't do it for me.
I think he has taken a side road that leads to a box canyon. Not for me.

Not My Cup of Tea
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I think that this book is just not my cup of tea. I was looking for inspiration and just heard rules
Would you recommend Buddhist Tantra to your friends? Why or why not?
No I wouldn't. It is like most religions whether it is a religion or not. If you don't do things the way you "should", you are doing it wrong and it won't "work".
What aspect of Reginald A. Ray’s performance would you have changed?
I felt like Reginald was a little too sterile in his delivery.
Do you think Buddhist Tantra needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No. It's just not for me.

The book I have been looking for
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book as awaken some things in me, like a child recognizing his mother, I felt like I have recognise a family ! In the book he talk about finding one path that resonates with us, for many years U have been shopping and discovering many differents ways of approaching the path, I have learn pieces from each one of them that helped me to walk the path. But this tradition of tantric Buddhism seems to make a melting of all the different pieces I collected through the years. To me this book is a revelation.
Any additional comments?
I really love how everything is explained, the way it is written and how stories are told keeps you engaged through all the book. I read this book in a short amount of time because I never wanted to stop ! There is some practicle exercise too that helps to better understand and feel what it is about. It teaches you the fundamentals and the history behind it, this is the most easy to comprehend, the most interesting book I have ever read about tantra ! If you have any interest about tantric budhism and like me are a bit tire of the books that just relate to history or to sexuality, this is the book that will make you really understand and grasp what those beautiful traditions are about !

Really thought provoking
I have read and listened to Reginald Ray for a good few years and whoever I do I learn and understand so much. I have been practicing Tibetan Buddhist practices for over 20 years and I gain a lot of understanding of what I am doing from Reginald Ray. There is so much clarity in his communication. A wonderful spiritual practitioner.
Thank you.

More of an intro to buddhism itself. (male view)
Tailored more to a male reader. No advice on practice with a tantric partner. Disappointed. Nothing that you wouldn't find in another Buddhist book or intro articles to tantra.

Distracting pauses
Mid sentence pauses (& I mean literally mid sentence, mid flow pauses which leave you frustrated after constantly experiencing it!) have prevented me from getting past 30 minutes of this book - I’m sure the content goes on to be wonderful but I’m just struggling so very much to listed. I may return to this book in future but for now I’ll have to move onto something with verbal ‘flow’.
