Publisher's Summary

When Alexandra's older brother dies the night of his graduation, it changes everything for her. No longer is she the party girl. No longer does she care about being popular, and no longer is her family the happy unit she always thought existed. The only person who can help her heal is the same person who loved her brother as much as she did, his best friend. She only hopes to keep her heart from breaking when Jesse moves on, and she knows he will.

After Ethan dies, Jesse focuses on basketball, partying, and girls. He uses it all to turn his emotions off, but the irony is that Alex is the only person who can do that for him. She helps him forget, but she is the one person he shouldn't be with because the secrets he knows could shatter everything. They could shatter her.

Contains mature themes.

Conflicted on this one

Idk. Part of me wants to give this book one star because it was messed up, depressing and left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Yet, another part of me wants to give it ten stars because it was beautifully messed up, screwed all to hell, raw and I could not put it down. So, I'm just giving the warning that this is no light hearted romance. It actually could only loosely be called a romance, more a grief driven masochistic obsession.

Loved the story, narrator was ok

I'm a big Tijan fan - loved this story, both books in the series. I'm a big audio book fan - this narrator was ok. I have mixed feelings about this narrator. Some of the time, she seemed bland and mousey; other times she did a pretty good job getting the flavor of the scene and characters. I am glad I finished listening to it, as my opinion of the narration improved thru the book, but I am still overall mixed on what i think about her.

Horrible performance

Wish I could have listened to more than just the first chapter but couldn’t get past the narrator’s voice and horrible performance... Should definitely be redone

This book is a hard read. Main character is majorly depressed.

This was a good book, but if you are feeling down, not a good time to read. The lead heroine just keeps getting knocked around by everyone in her life. Still a good book to read.

Alot of secrets and sadness

Hmmm, well there are parts to this book that I really like, their parts of this book that are annoying and there are parts of this book that I felt like I just wanted to skim through and get passed. I really like Alex but she really has some issues, she has major trauma and depression from losing her brother and she should be in therapy because seems like she gets panic attacks and zones out alot. Then there’s Jessie who doesn’t seem to want to let go of Ethan, I think he’s hurting so much and I think there’s guilt there but we don’t know the whole story yet so I’ll be curious to find out what that is about. Alex‘s friend Angie got on my nerves so much, constantly getting in the way of her and Jesse, constantly lecturing her, I felt like she was Mrs. Goody two shoes and then her other friend Marissa who is not really a friend because she just kept hitting on every guy that either liked Alex or Alex liked but I do think there’s something there that’s making her act this way too and once again don’t know what that is. Alex‘s parents I don’t even know what to say, it’s unbelievable and leave it at that. I think the chemistry between Alex and Jesse is smoking hot and yes I think they also cling to each other because of losing Ethan. Alex‘s feelings run deep and I suspect Jessies might too but he just doesn’t know how to handle it. I have a feeling that the second book will be revealing much more secrets and I’m hoping a happily ever after for this couple. I enjoyed Jillian as the narrator but I wish there was a male to do Jesse.

Disappointing

I typically love anything written by Tijan, but this made no sense to me. Some events hinted at a bit of mystery, but nothing came of it. The main character’s actions didn’t properly correlate with events; she seemed unaffected by huge things and shaken by inconsequential things. I kept waiting for it to get better, but it didn’t. Also, this was an awful narration. Her voice was exactly the same no matter the emotion the character was supposed to convey.

Awful

Bizarre plot, terrible dialogue. Didn't like the narration of the male voices. A waste of time.

Loved it

I enjoyed this novel. These characters were flawed and complex yet you felt for them. The story will take you on an emotional roller-coaster ride. You will feel it all. The story was narrated by Jillian Macie. She did a great job with the characters and brought the story to life. I loved it and can't wait to read the next book.

not sure...

I'm not quite sure how I felt about this story I usually love tijans books but this one was kind of hit and miss with me. I am going to go on to the second book though because I am curious to see how it ends.

Heartbreaking

Oh my word, this book broke my heart, I found myself to be a complete and utter emotional wreck at various points throughout the book. The story follows Alex and Jesse as they try to live with the loss of Jesse's best friend and Alex's brother Ethan. Jesse and Alex hook up at various momentous dates in the year, finding solace in each other so that they may feel again. The fact that Alex is and always has been in love with Jesse (who does not do relationships) makes this all the more harder on Alex. That and the fact that her parents have pretty much forgotten she exists. Poor poor Alex, I felt so much for her. I loved Jesse, I hated Jesse, I loved Jesse. Oh , and don't keep me started on Alex's parents, completely abandoning her, no excuse! Beautifully written, as I've come to expect from Tijan. Desperately need to start on book 2 now, need to see how it pans out with Jesse and Alex in college together. I need a hea for Alex so much.
