About this listen

Fred Bracken is headed back to the tiny Montana community where he grew up after being an inpatient in a military psychiatric hospital for a year.

Still pestered by nightmares and flashbacks from the war that left him with severe PTSD, he wonders what life will look like.

He wants to marry his childhood sweetheart, but how can that happen? Her father is in prison. She has two children by prior marriages, is living with her mom, and working to support them all.

He has no home, no family, and no job skills other than ranching. Worse yet, after what happened, he doesn’t know if anyone in the tight-knit ranching community will trust him.

Even if things work out, will he be able to keep his demons under control?

What will happen when he has to face the people and the situations that sent him to the hospital in the first place?

He knows that PTSD has been called the silent killer. His psychologist has done all she can to prepare him, but now he’s on his own. Will he be able to weather the storms he’s facing, or will he simply become another statistic of the war that broke him?
