Publisher's Summary

From author Jaymin Eve comes a new chapter in the Supernatural Prison World....

Maximus Compass is a vampire without direction. Without heart. And without soul. He lost his true mate in the great battle against the dragon king, and now must face life alone.

And yet something is happening to his agony. It's fading away, leaving him with barely a memory of the female he believed to be his one and only.

As his mind clears he starts to wonder if the mate bond had been nothing more than a manufactured ploy. This suspicion explodes within him right around the time he runs back into a certain wolf shifter.

Mischa Lebron is a complication he doesn't need in his life. He can't erase her from his mind though, and while memories of his supposed true mate continue to fade into mere shadows, his one night with Mischa is blazingly strong. But they're not of the same supernatural race, so there's no way for a true bond to exist between them.

Right?

When an old threat rips apart their pack, Maximus will come to realize that he would do anything to save Mischa. That the mate he thought was perfect and precious was nothing on the shifter he walked away from. Now Maximus truly has everything to lose.

Not good

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I can't think of what could have helped.

Has Broken Compass put you off other books in this genre?

Genre, no but series and author - definitely. I won't download something with these narrators again.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The male narrator's voice did not match the character's description. He has a soft feminine tone that even when he tried to deepen his voice, it didn't last. And he accentuated all words too much. The woman had a strange lilt to the end of her sentences, I'm not sure what accent she was supposed to be.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Annoyance.

male lead

the casting of the male lead was questionable. Having such an effeminate voice for a warrior type hero was very off putting.

loved story - annoyed over narrators

I love Jaymin Eves books. They are funny, emotional and intelligent. This was no exception.

Unfortunately in this audible book. Chris read Max story and his female voice grated on me. If Eva just read the entire book it would have been fantastic. Or if Eva did all the female voices and Chris did all the male voices that would have been fantastic as well. The way it was read was like you had 2 totally different authors writing 2 different stories. You had to constantly figure out what was happening and who was who. it totally detracted from book.

comment over all 4 books

Great story, saw this part by accident. Already heard the first three and was not impressed with the narrator. This book I listened to as it was different and split voiced, I am super glad I did as Eva Kaminsky is for me much better to listen to. Thank you for writing these books I look forward to more of your work especially with Jessa & her pack

this story is.....

okay but the male narrator RUINED IT!!! I am so completely and utterly disappointed at how he just ruined this book. So monotone he just read it.... didn't even bother trying to change the sound of the different male voices except for Louis's and it was just HORRIBLE. Louis is supposed to be this badass sorcerer and he made him sound like Steve Urkel all nasal and nerdy like. I love all of Jay's books, a huge supporter and it hurts my heart to have to leave a review like this. The writing is good unfortunately this story seems to be VERY rushed and definitely not up to par with the other Supernatural Prison books.

Male narrator almost ruined the book...

I loved this story! But the male narrator almost made me stop listening. I'm sure he's great otherwise but his lisp really bothered me. His voice portrayals were also not as good as the previous 3 books in this series.

Great Storyline, Narrators could have been much better

The storyline was good but the male narrator (Chris Kipiniak) was horrible and the female narrator (Eva Kaminsky) was ok.

Ooh, awkward

Have been binge listening to this series during a long daily commute. Eagerly purchased and downloaded this book..... and dang. Full disclosure, I am not nearly done listening to it... and yet I kind of am. There are two talents reading parts. The voice actor who is reading for Max.... darn it. Not only does he pronounce important names differently than they were pronounced in prior books, but this fellow has a bit of a soft affect to his tone and... a lisp? It’s just.... hard to listen to. Max is big and gruff and tough, in my imagination. Broody. The voice reading him belongs in tailored Khakis, charming the pants off of the fellas in the first class cabin on an international flight.
I might have to buy the printed book. 😳

Well this was exceedingly disappointing

I read the reviews before I got this book but I didn't think they would be as accurate as they were the near raider in the story who reads the malecharact

Couldn't Make It Through

Characters didn't develope, plot was uninspired... What ancient, powerful race would refer to themselves as "SUPS"??

Hard for me to get through the Max reading.

Misha reading was great, although not what I was used to after listening to the first several books. The Max reading was almost painful, so flat and emotionless.
