About this listen

There is no calm after the storm. But there is perseverance, ingenuity, and a whole lot of courage.

Leo's life has been dismantled. Now with his father missing, he must rely on himself more than ever, but he's still young. His older brother does what he can to help, but soon even Andar will rely on Leo to free them from this nightmare. The king's army is taking over the city, against the wishes of every citizen, but there's something special about Leo that might change everything.

Leo must grow up quickly to achieve his potential, but at a cost. He must join the very people who could destroy everything he cares about.

I'm still very much enjoying the series. Will be going on to listen to the next book. Well written. Interesting storyline. Well developed characters. The narrator remains excellent.

Still enjoying the series

The attention to world and character building is very good, and the care given to establishing back stories and motivation is high. However the plot simply moves along at too slow a pace for a book of this short length - either the books need to be a lot longer so more happens in a book while the detail is maintained (ie Tolkien style) or the descriptions need to be cut back so there is room for more action. The entire first book was basically an epilogue and this second book is basically a training arc. If the books weren't free as part of my audible subscription I would not be shelling out to hear the next tiny segment of story. SPOILER ALERT: The entire plot of the second book can be summarised as the brothers joined the army to be trained as mages and then the army went into another kingdom to confront a problem that will be the subject of the next book. The overall story is enjoyable, but not 4 separately paid for books of good

Good but glacial

you followed it up perfectly and continued the series really well. I enjoy the fact they developed the story without mentioning every day of the characters life but still not making us feel like we're missing anything.
Fantastic narration! (for the first book too) love your work team!

another sensational book

yep. liked this story and it's pace. as usual Mr Vance tells it the way I like it. Although I usually listen a story at 1.10 and even quicker if a chapter is exciting. more interesting things happened in the second book. do wish the books were longer. I recommend waiting for the complete series before starting.

enjoyed

This was an awesome book, full of adventure, bravery, and magic. The world building in this series' is incredible I can really picture what it is like for the characters as they navegate their life and their world.

Amazing world building

Story and approach is ordinary with actions not making much sense, and unrealistic. Very contrived and struggling to engage, except the narrator who does a good job with poor material. only part way through but probably stop listening soon. feels quite amateurish.

unrealistic, poor
