Publisher's Summary

Jemima Pardon, a paramedic with a daft name and chronic asthma, has never had much in the way of good luck. The only things she attracts are traumatic jobs, and no one wants to work with her for long. But when Jem bumps into devil-may-care police officer Rosie Jones, her fortunes seem to be changing. Rosie is bright and funny, and she doesn’t mind that Jem can’t go far without her inhaler.

Things are looking up, until a suspicious death draws Jem and Rosie into an investigation that spirals beyond their control. As torrential rain floods the city, they face a battle to survive if they’re ever going to have a chance at finding love.

Wow, what a ride.

Again Cari Hunter has absolutely nailed it. Relatable Characters, a great dialogue, a thrilling storyline plus with Nicola Victoria Vincent delivering the perfect performance yet again. my wife and I cried, laughed, got angry and even sat in the car in the driveway of our home just to hear what happened next. And as always, we cannot wait to see what Cari Hunter delivers next.

Must-read

Good on paper, even better on audio. Nicola Victoria Vincent is marvelous! And so long as Cari Hunter keeps on writing...I’ll keep on reading her books. There’s something about her characters that makes you miss them once the book is done. Which is why I’m sure I’ll read this a third and fourth time, despite the mountain of “to-be-read” books I’ve got piling up on my various digital shelves.

Excellent!

I loved Breathe. A great story. Great mix of life on the front lines of paramedics and police. Loved Rosie and Jem. Nicola Victoria Vincent brings the story to life.

Great romance.

I was thoroughly entertained by the characters in this book. It’s a great romance with a character who’s always getting the crappy end of things and a a police officer who is there to back her up. The drama in this book is secondary to the characters’ romance but it gets resolved nicely. Definitely enjoyed this book. The narrator was clear and great about different character voices. This author never disappoints.

Delightful... to say the least...

Suspense. Mystery. Adventure. Romance. Humor. A little angst. And HEA. Charming. Irresistible. The characters are fabulous. Strong sense of place. And the narration is outstanding -- Manchester accent and all. Just be prepared: the author does not "dumb down" the authentic slang/colloquialisms for Americans. ( I paused it from time to time to look them up and it didn't detract at all !) This is my first Cari Hunter book and I am obviously impressed... make that blown away.

nice change of pace. it had substance

Different from many who insist on no plot and rigid Butch femme rolls. the drama was real instead of made-up relationship drama.

SO GOOD I HAVE HEARD IT TWICE AND READ IT ONCE

When you wait for a Cari Hunter book it is like waiting for a bus then the book and Audible come out together. If you have read the book that is brilliant but the spoken word is even better.

I love the 2 main characters, Rosie and Jem, the way they bounce off each other and learn how to get through their baggage. With Carri's books you get a hard hitting story interspersed with northern humour and lots of food.

Warning after reading this book you may need your waterproofs and wellies.

Cari at her best.

I thought I’d written a review for this!
It’s BRILLIANT. It’s heartwarming, funny, heartbreaking and a slice of life from the northern part of England. The language is pure English at its very best, with phrases and idioms set to test the non-native listener but oh, it’s so worthwhile, just settling in to this cracking story. I’ve just re-listened for the uncountable time. Always something to entertain even though the story is now so familiar.
As with all of Cari Hunter’s stories it is unputdownable (is there such a word? 🤣) and I am so looking forward to her next offering, both in print and on audio.

Breathless

This one ticked all the boxes, it may be my all time favourite. A blossoming romance between a luckless paramedic and a Billy bonkers police officer, and a murder to spice things up with laugh out loud moments. Nicola Victoria Vincent's narration just knocks it out of the park. An absolute must! Oh and don't forget to buy a Twix you'll need one??

Have listened to it twice in one week.

... and have ordered myself a hard copy.
I feel like this might be the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the combination Cari Hunter and Nicola Victoria Vincent. Down the rabbit hole I go!

But in all seriousness, this was a wonderful book. Some genius writing in places that have you laughing out loud one moment and sobbing the next. It's rare that I find an author and a narrator that work so well together as these two do. Also it's great to have more British based fiction starring lesbians.

So if you like a slow build romance, interesting characters, an edge of your seat plot AND you're debating about whether to get this or not, get it. You will not be disappointed.

I'm off to buy some more of Cari's books now!

A Day in the Life of...

Jemima the paramedic, from Manchester. Thats what I feel the rest of the story is going to be about....but so far more about her life generally than the various patients. Have reached to end of chapter 11 and decided that enough for me (but given 3 stars as I expect something does happen in the rest of the book).
