Publisher's Summary

Jamal and Bibi have a dream. To lead Australia to soccer glory in the next World Cup. They know it won't be easy. They'll have to beat some really good teams, plus landmines, pirates, storms, and assassins. But they're sure they can achieve their dream, if only they can get to Australia.

Sometimes, to save the people you love, you have to go overboard. A story of hope, ball control, and an incredible journey.

My year six class loved this!!

Great way to engage reluctant boys in reading and everyone else in the class. We worried, laughed and cheered!

Grade 5 novel

I’m a mum and listened to it with my 11 year old for homework. It was a wonderful story and told very well. We were very engaged in the story and didn’t want it to end.

A fabulous book

I teach Year 4 in Australia and my class loved this book. They laughed, we’re moved to tears and really cared about the characters and their flight to seek asylum. We had some big discussions, especially over the ending. Highly recommend.

Great read

If you could sum up Boy Overboard in three words, what would they be?

Exciting read

What about Morris Gleitzman’s performance did you like?

Illustrates the concerns that asylum seekers have, the fact they are escaping war torn lives and prosecution.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

So many, from the land mine to the search plane.

Any additional comments?

Every though its a short book, I was constantly entertained and interested. Loved it.

An educational read for my children

Told from the perspective of a young boy, this story gave my children a great insight into the plight of refugees and asylum seekers.
