About this listen

"You're a useless lump, Boxer. You'd forget your own head if it wasn't screwed on."

With that sort of grief, why should Boxer stay around? He hates the new school. He's scored another detention. So what? Who cares anyway? He's not coming back. Ever.

His new mate, the Nicker, has ideas. "You need action, Boxer," he says.

But what the Nicker has in mind is really pushing the edge.

Editorial reviews

Australian children's author Margaret Clark has written over 100 books, including multiple series like Mango Street, Chickabee, and Shorts, of which this audiobook forms a part. Aimed at a primary school audience, this novel tells the story of Boxer, a boy who abhors both his new town and his new school. His negative attitude and his new friendship with Nicker introduce him to problematic scenarios that only Clark can resolve.

Australian actor and comedian Stig Wemyss has extensive experience performing children's literature, and his voice easily shifts between the exaggerated personalities and outsized emotions that characterize the genre - all with perfect pacing. He brings a humorous and perceptive tone to a boy whose unhappiness is not long for this world.
