London, 1946. Gabriel Book is an erudite and unconventional London bookseller married to Trottie, the owner of the wallpaper shop next door. He is also a sleuth who uses the chaotic riches of his stock to crack the puzzling cases that come his way.

He does not work alone. Book's shop is a magnet for waifs and strays - some of whom bring mysteries of their own to his door. There's Nora, sometime bookseller and true crime enthusiast; Dog, connoisseur of ginger biscuits and then Jack, whose arrival at the shop forces Book to confront a loose end from his own past.

Got easily distracted with the book struggled to hold my attention. There was some interesting ideas but story lacked depth and intrigue. Considering that the main character is Mr Book and wife Mrs Book in a book shop the frequency of the word ‘book’ became tedious. Plot lines was good for the whole done it bit but the main character and their development felt shallow so struggled to commit to them hence struggled to keep my attention which is not usually an issue with a good book,

I persevered with this book but I found nothing compelling about it. In fact it was so dull in places that I repeatedly had to go back and listen to sections because I switched off during the narration. I felt that the book tried too hard and missed on every point.
