Publisher's Summary

A cold case heats up, revealing a deadly conspiracy in a twisty thriller by #1 New York Times bestselling author Lee Goldberg.

A catastrophic wildfire scorches the Santa Monica Mountains, exposing the charred remains of a woman who disappeared years ago. The investigation is assigned to Eve Ronin, the youngest homicide detective in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, a position that forces her to prove herself again and again. This time, though, she has much more to prove.

Bones don’t lie, and these have a horrific story to tell. Eve tirelessly digs into the past, unearthing dark secrets that reveal nothing about the case is as it seems. With almost no one she can trust, her relentless pursuit of justice for the forgotten dead could put Eve’s own life in peril.

Great story with plot twists

This book held my attention throughout. Eve is my new favorite character. Book 2 was even better then book 1, which I loved.

Great Book!

I have enjoyed both books in this series tremendously. I love the characters and complicated cases Eve and Duncan have faced. The story twists and turns leaving us guessing until the end. I am usually good at solving mysteries but I didn’t catch this one! Narrator did a great job also. I am looking forward to more of the series!

loved this one. delightfully twisty!

Loved this one. Delightfully twisty!
Audible - well done.
Twisty plot - well crafted.
I had the "who dun it" early, but it was still delicious to watch it unfold.
I liked that this book picked up quickly from the first book and seemed like just a continuation- like in a tv series.
Typically the "sophomore" novel is not as great, but this one is better than the 1st.
I read complaints in reviews about how this LASD unit doesn't exist in real life therefore these books aren't good - To that I'd like to say, who cares! It's fiction. *eyeroll* Some people can't just enjoy something on it's merits of a well crafted story.
Get the book.
Enjoy the book.
I am certainly looking forward to the next book.

Solid murder mystery, with annoying personal/domestic drama

This is an excellent read when the storyline sticks to the murder investigation with Detective Eve “Deathfist” Ronin and her soon-to-retire partner, Duncan Pavone. The serial-murder/police procedural has enough twists to keep the pages turning, but the protagonist’s personal life and her interactions with family members interrupts the flow.

Eve’s failed-Hollywood-actor mother is even more annoying this time ‘round, nagging Eve to pursue Hollywood fame (so mom can make some bucks and enjoy borrowed glory). Plus mom keeps harping on Eve’s lack of makeup. It’s worse when her siblings pile on, parrot Mommy Dearest, and chat about Eve’s lack of makeup.

I read Kindle and also listened to the audiobook. This is my first listen of audiobook narrator, Nicol Zanzarella, who is a hero very good voice-actor.

Good continuing story

A good second story about Eve Ronan. She is learning and ask more questions than others. Her hostility towards her parents is annoying. I will be looking forward to the third installment.

Too short!

I love both the Eve Ronin books. Reminds me a little of the Stephanie Plum series but with more realistic supporting characters. I pre-ordered this book right after i read the first one and Bone Canyon did not disappoint. My only complaint is that it was too short. I'm looking forward to more books on this series.

Good second installment!

I appreciate the further development of Eve’s character. The story went in several different directions that finally merged in the end. Not much actual suspense or thrill. I would have preferred to have heard the word ‘retirement’ about 80 times less. All in all, solid!

Ok. Not a good as the first one.

Honestly, I struggled with the middle of this book. Maybe I had too high expectations after the first one but this wasn't quite as tense and engaging. It's a weird one because the beginning was quite good, the middle was poor and the ending was great.

I think part of the problem is this book reveals a lot of the main character's flaws and that makes it seems less of an escapist fantasy and bogs it down more in reality.

I found most of the characters ok although some were too unrealistic for me. Some of the MCs actions were a bit weird but by and large justifiable. The plot was okish.

The narration was... robotic. Moreso than in the previous book from what I remember. I did listen at 1.10x speed.
