In diesem Milieu ist Ernst Haffners unter den Nazis verbotener und bei den Bücherverbrennungen öffentlich zerstörter Roman angesiedelt. Im Mittelpunkt stehen zwei aus Erziehungseinrichtungen geflüchtete Jugendliche und die Clique der Blutsbrüder, der sie sich nach ihrer Ankunft in Berlin anschließen.
