Story
She's young. She's beautiful. And her corpse, laid out in the office of Boston medical examiner Cat Novak, betrays no secrets - except for a notebook clutched in one stiff hand, seven numbers scrawled inside. When a second victim is discovered, Cat begins to fear that a serial killer is stalking the city streets: a shadowy madman without mercy or apparent motive. The police are sceptical. The mayor won't listen. And Cat's chief suspect is one of the city's most prominent citizens.

Story
When Ava arrives at Brodie’s Watch, she thinks she has found the perfect place to hide from her past. Something terrible happened, something she is deeply ashamed of, and all she wants is to forget. But the old house on the hill both welcomes and repels her, and Ava quickly begins to suspect she is not alone. Either that or she is losing her mind. The house is full of secrets, but is the creeping sense of danger coming from within its walls, or from somewhere else entirely?

Story
In the murky shadows of an alley lies a female’s severed hand. On the tenement rooftop above is the corpse belonging to that hand, a red-haired woman dressed all in black, the body nearly decapitated. Two strands of silver hair — not human — cling to her body. They are Rizzoli’s only clues, but they’re enough for her and medical examiner Maura Isles to make a startling discovery: This violent death had a chilling prequel.

Boston Detective Jane Rizzoli is on the case of a big game hunter found dead in his apartment, alone with the body of a beautiful white snow leopard he had recently been commissioned to procure and stuff for a high-profile museum in the area. Medical examiner Maura Isles connects the case to a number of seemingly unrelated deaths where the victims have all been found hanging upside down, the hallmark of a leopard's kill.

Story
A nameless, beautiful woman appears to be just another corpse in the morgue. An apparent suicide, she lies on a gurney, awaiting the dissecting scalpel of medical examiner Maura Isles. But when Maura unzips the body bag and looks down at the body, she gets the fright of her life. The corpse opens its eyes. Very much alive, the woman is rushed to the hospital, where with shockingly cool precision, she murders a security guard and seizes hostages - one of them a pregnant patient, Jane Rizzoli.

Publisher's Summary
Tess Gerritsen again weaves frighteningly realistic medical detail into heart-stopping suspense, as a small-town doctor races to unravel the roots of a violent epidemic - before it destroys everything she loves.
Lapped by the gentle waters of Locust Lake, the small resort town of Tranquility, Maine, seems like the perfect spot for Dr. Claire Elliot to shelter her adolescent son, Noah, from the distractions of the big city, and the lingering memory of his father's death. She's also hopeful that she can earn the trust of the town as she builds a new practice. But all her plans unravel with the news of a shocking incident: a teenage boy under her care has committed an appalling act of violence.
Claire has stopped prescribing a controversial drug to the troubled boy, a decision that some in town now second-guess. But before she can defend herself, a rash of new teenage violence erupts in Tranquility, forcing Claire to perform increasingly risky emergency procedures. And when one of her patients dies, the town's panic turns to fury.
Shaken by accusations, and fearful that Noah is now at risk, Claire desperately searches for a medical cause behind the murderous epidemic. She begins to suspect that the placid waters of Locust lake conceal a disturbing history - and an insidiously lethal danger. But while Claire races to save the town - and her son - from harm, she discovers an even greater threat: a shocking conspiracy to manipulate nature, and turn innocents to slaughter.

Good medical thriller
I enjoy the combination of biological and psychological, and this was a very good example, with unexplained rage appearing among the teenagers in a small town, and a doctor, a police officer and others trying to find the reason before more people are killed.

THE STREAM OF SLAUGHTER
ELWIN WAS AN EVOLUTIONARY DEAD END
I have finally figured it out. Tess Gerritsen has been reincarnated several times and she remembers all her former lives. It is the only way she could know what it is like to be a teenage boy, girl, old man, old woman, middle aged, in love, not loved, etc... She gets all these emotions perfect. In most of her books I always feel a connection to her. She is one of my favorites and this is one of my favorites.
THE CHILDREN WERE IN THE ATTIC
Had this been written today, instead of the 90's this would probably be a Zombie book. It has a lot of the elements that make a good Zombie story. Parts are scary, parts are gory, parts are science weird and it is mostly suspenseful. This is early Tess, when she wrote mostly on the edge and her writing was closer to Koontz and King. This is before she became famous with Rizzoli. Her writing today is a lot tamer and aimed more at the gentler gender.
BETTER A WITCH THAN A VEGETARIAN
TG is famous for her young doctors who get into trouble for doing the right thing and going against the establishment. This is no different. If you have ever found yourself having to take an unpopular stand, you will appreciate the main character and how well TG makes you feel what the character is going through. Some of the side stories are cute, such as Elwin and the Witch. The story also has lots of twists and some science. I loved it.

AWESOME
What made the experience of listening to Bloodstream the most enjoyable?
I love Tess's books and get so involved that my iPod is on at every possible moment
Who was your favorite character and why?
Cannot remember, so all must have been good!!!
What does Richard Poe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His reading this book gave so much more emphasis on parts which I would not have actually realised I was not paying all that attention to.
Any additional comments?
I wish more "single" stories were written by Tess and not all the series - I really don't enjoy them as I do not want to waste my credits on 2 of the same books. Difficult to really put what I mean into words.

UNREASONABLE
so much ridiculous. Claire never goes to school, ever, to speak with principal re sons.....so called fights. None of altercations were verified as to REALLY were the instigators. Problems in Tranquility certainly could never be compared to Baltimore. 6 months of BEHAVIOR in that small town would never have been seen as a responsible place to raise a boy even without the.....worms. 75 percent of the population were UNREASONABLE. etc, etc

Not up to Tess Gerritsen's usual standard
This book was worth a listen to, but the story was rather unbelievable, and I did feel irritated by the mother/son/guilt-trip. The book did keep my interest though, and I wanted to see it through to the end. For this reason I feel that 3 stars are warranted. I usually enjoy Tess Gerritsen's work more than I did this book.

Scared the snot out of me!
This is an excellent medical suspense thriller, which really kept me gripped. I tend to listen to audiobooks in bed (too lazy to turn pages whilst I'm trying to doze off) and in this case that was something of a miscalculation because my sub-conscious had obviously worked out something of the plot, which then got into my dreams, and I woke up (coincidentally with a blocked nose... but I don't want to give too much away) yelling in panic! So, in my humble opinion, well worth a listen, but perhaps not late at night unless you want to wake the whole street.

Entertaining enough.
The story was a little bit incredible. The mother/son thing was overplayed, but despite that it was enjoyable.
The discovered/uncovered organism was a little bit hard to believe but it was entertaining.
