I don’t know why I put this book series off for so long. I loved this book.

For me the MMC is giving Lorcan vibes and the FMC is Aelin.

She is strong, smart, determined and feisty!
He is grumpy and intense.

So far I’d say it’s a great and enjoyable Romatasy read. In that I’m not stressed or bored. So far most of it isn’t “ground breaking” in terms that you probably will guess parts of the plot etc but not in a bad way. I’m thoroughly enjoying every minute of it.

The voice actor performances are also great.

Ok, this was dry as dry to start with and I was beginning to wonder why people raved about it. Then it started to pick up and the misogyny became a side character instead of the main character.
I liked Thea. She had a lot to learn about everything when she finally got the chance to be a shield bearer. But it was on,y then that she started to actually listen to people also.
Wilder was interesting. I’ve made assumptions about his magic and to his reasoning why he’s so solitary but I guess we’ll find out more later.

My biggest issue here is that Rebecca Yarros appears to have read this before writing Fourth wing and decided it would be better with dragons. There are a number of names in both stories as well as the special magics that are repeated. I’m curious as to how far this resemblance goes but this series was clearly written first.

The narrators were quite good. I had no issue with listening to then for the long term.
