This book was so heartbreaking right from the start. Poor Vicki has been busy & dodging her mothers call until she finds out her mother has passed away. Mike & Henry accompany Vicki to attend her mothers funeral only to find out her mothers body has gone missing. This begins a heartbreaking journey for Vicki to track down her mothers body while also dealing with the discovery somebody in town has been trying to bring people back from the dead. We see a real vulnerability in Vicki that hasn't been seen in the previous books, this helps show a softer more human side to her usual tough & gruff character. Also having the three main characters kind of stuck together to solve this really amps up the tension between them all creating a new tension. My heart broke for Vicki all the way through, right up until the life changing climax. Tanya Huff has created an amazing world with developed characters that is read amazingly by Justine Eyre. Am loving this series.
