Publisher's Summary

Having lost both his father and best friend 10 years ago, Ivan struggled to hold onto what sanity he had left. But the Count, the person who took everything from him wasn't going to let that happen. With mere weeks to go until his father's debt was cleared, the cruel Count Dvorak intended to finish the job he'd begun 10 years ago, leaving Ivan on the verge of death in the process.

However, before his final breath, an opportunity for vengeance presented itself in the form of a beautiful dark priestess, and an offer to serve her unholy mistress. Left with no options, Ivan must learn to navigate the darkness deep within and become the monster the world has forced him to be.

another great addition to this authors repertoir

a very dark addition to the harrmlit genre, but that's typical of the authors style. sexy vampire nuns, maids, and districts (trinity blood anime reference):
oh my!
definitely worth a listen, for those who like the complete opposite of twilight. the author gets better with each new book, particularly with regards to the end of book hook.

I liked it but...

I have a hard time following the story it felt very discombobulated I can't see me buying another book from the author since redeath felt very similar and I wasn't able to finish it either. if the mc was able to think more about what he can do to not screw up masterfully and figure out who and what he is going to fight his enemies. so far he has let his heart run amok and libido if he could keep it on a smaller leash I feel like 40% of his problems would be solved.

Decent Harem Story

I received a code for this book and decided to give it a chance.
Having never read/listened to a Harem novel before, this experience was interesting.

Without going into spoilers, the story is okay enough. Some of the word usage seemed odd at times, but is likely explained by the author not having English as his first language. The story leans way too heavily into the ‘Chosen One’ trope with the main character. This trope is extremely common, but it's really obvious when it isn’t done well. Further, it suffers from too many “oh, by the way” flashbacks/recounts of the past to both “explain” weird aspects of the story and to unfortunately create more confusing issues.

The narration was pretty good. It was jarring to have the main character speak to others with a vaguely Eastern European accent, consistent with the other characters, but then have his perspective narration be presented with non-accented English. Also, the perspective narration voice sounded like a guy trying to be stereotypically dark, edgy, and mere moments from the ultimate climax. The best way I can describe it is to take Christian Bale’s Batman voice then make it less gruff, more smarmy, more staccato and deprived of sexual release.

The story was a fine listen, but I doubt I’d listen to it again.

Okay story, great narrator.

The story was decent and most harem fans will probably find it entertaining. For me though, it always felt like there were compromises in the character's development/personalities to make sure sex would happen. This left the female characters feeling inconsistent and difficult to care about, like they were just there for one purpose and who they were didn't matter. It left me wondering if this could be a great book without the harem element. What really kept me listening, though, was the narrator. They performed the cast extremely well, to a point were he helped give the character's more personality and bring them to life more that the words on the page did. Would definitely pick up another title with the same performance quality.

interesting, possibly almost good

the story was interesting in concept however was poorly executed, almost reminiscent of high school drabbles. world building was a bit lacking evident in the world's display. vocabulary is week and descriptions childish, I'd actually pay more to hear the outtakes from the narrators recording sessions than the story. only reason I'd reread/relisten is the amazing narrator who I look forward to seeing more of as he shows real promise with his vocal and accent range.

Another dumb MC..

I got through half of this book before I gave up. The MC is sooo confident in himself for no reason at all. He gets beat up and ignores the advice of others with more knowledge. He risks others lives because once again he doesn’t think. Gets his companion turned slave because he didn’t listen to her. Gets offended at being told off even though he admits he deserves it and half an hour later he is screwing up again and offended others are angry at his stupidity.

If you want another book with a pathetic MC then this is the book for you. If not, avoid this one.

Bad narration

Narrator was horrible and just made it hard to finish or really get into the story. Story was great.
