Human PI Adrian Elias and King of the Lion shifters Sage Tamir are mages whose powers have been enhanced by their true-mate bond. They’ve got a lot on their plates. Archduke of Chicago Salino Laurent has turned Sage into a vampire to save his life and Salino wants Sage and Adrian to help him overthrow the Vampire Emperor through deep, dark magic. Adrian is trying to break a centuries-old family curse which kills all male heirs on their thirteenth birthday. Meanwhile, in an effort to coerce Adrian and Sage, the Council of Mages has revealed that Sage has deliberately killed a griezel (human ghoul), which gives the King of the Griezels the right to declare war on Sage’s pride. Luckily Adrian and Sage have their trusty grimoire which continues to provide them the new spells they need!

This was classic Nicholas Bella: another busy plot chockfull with blood, sex and high-stakes action underpinned by some really creative ideas and supernatural world building! I really enjoyed the storylines and the characters. Although this is definitely Adults Only, I like that Nicholas Bella always provides happy resolutions to each subplot—the innocent and the good may get battered but they (usually!) survive. 🎧 Voice actor Keith Folz has produced another excellent audio narration with clearly distinguishable voice for each other characters and a powerfully emotive performance!
