About this listen

A Black Notice means one thing: unidentified human remains. This time, five skeletons buried deep in the fenland soil.

Rowan Jackman and Marie Evans are the detectives who take on the toughest cases on the Lincolnshire fens. This time trouble comes in threes.

6 a.m. on a dark autumn morning. Retired detective Bob Ruston is about to feed the dog when the doorbell rings. The man on the doorstep has blood running down his cheek and a look of terror on his face. 'Please! Let me in! They're going to kill me!'

Bob sees a handcuff dangling from the man's lacerated wrist.

Later that day, a stylishly dressed woman marches into Saltern-le-Fen police station demanding to see Detective Marie Evans. 'I want you to find my husband.'

Then a homeowner clearing undergrowth in his back garden makes a horrifying discovery. The decomposing remains of five bodies huddled in an old World War 2 pillbox.

Detective Jackman asks Interpol to issue a Black Notice. But little is he prepared for the shocking results that come in . . .

As with every book in this wonderful series, Jackman, Evan’s and their crew do their thing and end up fixing and solving multiple mysteries.
Every book from Joy Ellis is devoured and loved and if possible, this series is just getting better.

Firstly I have to strongly disagree with the review titled "Weak"!!! I would hazard a guess they didn't listen to the whole book, because it was anything but weak! The storyline was complex and interesting; I had to take notes as there were lots of characters 😅 so it's easier to do that 👍 It had me guessing until very late in the book 🤔 For me anyway it was one of the best books I've listened to, and I've listened to many many books and different authors. Really looking forward to the next one 😃🤩👏👏👏

Brilliant 👏👏👏

Joy Ellis has brought Jackman and Evans back a little stronger and wiser as the detectives battle cases from past and present. Wonderful series.

really liked the reader/readers and how they drew the picture of where the characters were and the feeling

the care and humour of the constabulary

I love the way Joy Ellis takes seemingly isolated incidents and melds them into an intriguing set of mysteries which often end with a number of unexplained conclusions.
I could listen Richard Armitage narrate a shopping list and still be completely engaged.

The complex webs capture the imagination.
