Publisher's Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Black Klansman, written and read by Ron Stallworth.

Adapted as a major motion picture by Spike Lee - winner of the Grand Prix at Cannes Film Festival 2018.

What happens when a black detective goes undercover in the KKK? An extraordinary true story.

In 1978, Ron Stallworth is the first black detective in the history of the Colorado Springs Police Department. In the local paper, he finds a classified ad for the Ku Klux Klan - and a PO box for interested enquiries.

All he's expecting are some racist brochures and a few scraps of information about the white nationalist terrorists in his community.

What he gets is a phone call inviting him to join the KKK.

So he does.

Launching an undercover investigation of incredible audacity, Ron recruits his partner, Chuck, to play the 'white' Ron Stallworth while Stallworth himself talks to the Klan over the phone. During his months-long investigation, Stallworth sabotages cross burnings, exposes white supremacists in the military, and even manages to deceive the KKK "Grand Wizard" David Duke himself - dodging danger and reprisal at every turn....

Black Klansman is an amazing true story and a roller coaster of a crime thriller - a searing and timely portrait of a divided America and the extraordinary heroes who dare to fight back.

"Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope." (Robert Kennedy)

The movie was better

This book was okay, but I enjoyed the movie more. The extra details in the book were interesting, but there was a lot less excitement.

The author also narrated this book, which was not great. Maybe because he is quite old now, I’m not sure, but he kind of sounded like he was talking with a mouth full of marbles.

It was entertaining enough, but I don’t know that I’ll listen to it again anytime soon.

Not What I Expected, But Still Great

This book was a bit of a slow burn. I was expecting a lot more action and gore but I wasn't at all disappointed. There were some moments that were a bit of a struggle, but for the most part it was good.

Have been wanting to see the movie since it came out but always prefer to read the book first. Thoroughly enjoyed this book especially read by Ron himself. Now to see the movie!

Amazing story!

I had the pleasure of seeing the movie, and wanted to read the book to learn more about the story.
The movie takes a lot of fictional room for movement but there’s even JUICIER stories in this book!
Hard to believe and worth the read

Truth is stranger than fiction

This is a great book and fascinating how much in the movie is from the book! Towards the end things do get a little ACAB. Ron sounds to have done the best he could in a bad system.

This is a very important book!

I think that this is a piece of the history, the present and the future that needs to be told over and over again. We need to learn!
