About this listen

THEY LEFT SEEKING SANCTUARY
THEY RETURNED SEEKING VENGEANCE

All of America knows what happened in Sanctuary - a boy lost his footing at a party and a town went mad with grief. But not everyone believes it.

Now Detective Maggie Knight is forced before a congressional hearing, following a revival of persecution that hasn't been seen since Salem.

Exiled witch Sarah Fenn and her daughter Harper fled, seeking refuge. Instead, they find hope carried on whispers of a dangerous magic and a centuries-old legend promising power.

Until a brutal magical crime throws them all back into the crucible.

Murder mystery meets dark fantasy in this scorching fusion of modern-day witchcraft, small-town secrets, and the persecuted reclaiming their power - perfect for fans of Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo, The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow, and Her Majesty's Royal Coven by Juno Dawson.

Earth to audiobook talent: reading in a quavery, over emotional voice that is constantly on verge of hysteria is almost unlistenable. That voice makes me despise the main character, Sarah.

The story, like the first book in the series, romps along, and is entertaining and also makes deeper points about difference, belonging, and motherhood. The story is great, and is let down by the narrator.
