The gloriously romantic debut about fame, friendship, and falling in love, from the best-selling author of Some Kind of Wonderful, and Happy Mum, Happy Baby.

Sophie May has a secret.

One that she's successfully kept for years. It's meant that she's had to give up her dreams of going to university and travelling the world to stay in her little village, living with her mum and working in the local teashop.

But then she meets the gorgeous Billy - an actor with ambitions to make it to the top. And when they fall in love, Sophie is whisked away from the comfort of her life into Billy's glamorous - but ruthless - world.

Their relationship throws Sophie right into the spotlight after years of shying away from attention. Can she handle the constant scrutiny that comes with being with Billy? And most of all, is she ready for her secret heartbreak to be discovered and shared with the nation?

Charming, heart-warming, and utterly romantic, Billy and Me, is an unforgettable story that will completely capture your heart.

Critic Reviews

"A gorgeous, gloriously romantic read with buckets of charm - I absolutely loved it!" (Jill Mansell)
"A sweet and sparkling debut from a lovely lady. Sure to be a hit." (Carole Matthews)
"Only the most hard-hearted could fail to root for Sophie as she falls for A-lister Billy and must take on the mad, bad world of showbiz. This sweet debut reminded me of Last Night at Chateau Marmont" (Louise Candlish)

Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet meet Billy and Me

Giovanna Fletcher is a mum, wife, actress, writer, podcaster and much more. She supports various charities including working closely with Tommy's and Save the Children as well as being an ambassador for The Prince’s Trust and is also an official patron for CoppaFeel!. Billy and Me is Giovanna debut novel which is filled with modern day romance, country charm with just a little bit of drama to spice up their lives. Sophie May lives in a quaint English village, just over an hour away from London. She has lived here all her life and knows all the local gossips (gossip I mean). Deciding the 'typical' route of school to uni/gap year to work was not possible or what Sophie wanted, she stumbles into the local tea shop where she lands a job, second home and best friend. All is well until the village is selected to be the filming location for Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and cue.... Mr Darcy aka Billy Buskin walks in and turns Sophie's world upside down. The story follows the ups and downs of the relationship between not only Billy and Sophie but also Sophie and Molly as well as Sophie and her mum. Billy and Me covers many major life changes that all of us will inevitably encounter or be touched by at some stage in our lives but one piece of advice to remember is if anyone ends up dating a hot shot actor is to....NEVER READ THE COMMENTS SECTION! This is a modern romantic novel, while some people may feel some aspects of the book are 'predictable' I feel that they suit the story and appreciate that there is not random twists and turns thrown in that would, in my opinion, over shadow the meaning of the story as well as disappoint readers seeking this genre type. I really enjoyed this book but I do want to advise reader caution as there are themes in the book concerning cancer, miscarriage and a hit-and-run. These are integral to the story and are themes that Giovanna has touched on with a deep sense of compassion but could still make those with the strongest hearts shed a tear of two. I also have to add that Kate Rawson did an excellent narration and really brings the characters to life and suited the telling of this story perfectly.

beautiful

at the beginning i struggled.. but further and further into this heart throb of a story, i became encaptured in Sophies Character. So relatable with her anxiety flares and her jealousy dramas.
I miss Molly already.

Too sickly

Umm, glad I didn't pay full price for this as it was a daily deal. The story whilst implausible is ok and let's face it this is meant to be a bit of fluffy romance. However, as the story progresses the central character becomes less likeable, self centred and at times not just annoying but nauseating. Ok so she had a tough event happen in child hood but really?

Disappointing

Whilst I was only looking for some light hearted chick lit this was still disappointing. Both the narration and the story fall short. Far too much introspection and a main character that by the end I genuinely disliked and found irritating. I would not recommend.

fairly standard chick lit

It's just ok really. Quite predictable and very forgettable. Well read and easy to listen to but the big secret was a let down.

Grow up Sophie!

I got so irritated by the leading lady. I love a good chic lit, but this was plain silly. Good narration however.

Vacuous nonsense

I was about to give a scathing review of a vacuous and unbelievable novel but despite toe curling narration and a nauseating performance, the story line is actually quite refreshing. It's ultimately a love story; the two main characters fall in love, are in love and remain in love - the rocky bits happen around them. This is the only realistic bit about it - a relatively normal relationship. This was the only unpredictable bit about the book. However this doesn't save it. The main character is self centred, spoilt and the other wet characters pander to her contInuously. Easy reading, chic-lit is a great genre but this adds nothing to the field - the sickly sweetness is far, far too much.

Cute story ruined by main character

This is a nice, light romantic tale that is gradually ruined by the main character becoming increasingly unreasonable, pathetic, self indulgent and irrational, while for some reason all of the other characters in the book seem to think she's wonderful, and humour and condone her childish behaviour. The fact that she didn't see fit to apologise to her long-suffering boyfriend in the final scene after behaving like a spoiled brat for months had me gritting my teeth in annoyance.

Don’t waste you life reading this

Awful cheesy with zero story line. The main character is a poor excuse for a woman - needy, self centred and pretty pathetic. The narrator sounds like something from a children’s tv programme. All in all a dreadful waste of my time listening to it

one for the teenagers more than the adult . No twists or turns and happy to get to the end!

What a great book. It had me laughing one minute and sobbing the next.
I'm really looking forward to making a start on the next one!
