Story
Three sisters, one birthday, one little problem... The three Kettle sisters have had a mortifying mishap. Their raucous, champagne-soaked birthday dinner has come to an abrupt end following a violent argument and an emergency dash to the hospital. So who started it this time? Was it angry, hurt Cat, still recovering from the 'night of the spaghetti'? Was it Lyn, so serenely successful, at least on the outside? Or was it quirky, dreamy Gemma, the sister who can't keep a secret except for the most important one of all?

The film Rabbit-Proof Fence is based on this true account of Doris Pilkington's mother, Molly, who as a young girl led her two sisters on an extraordinary 1,600 kilometre walk home. Under Western Australia's invidious removal policy of the 1930s, the girls were taken from their Aboriginal families at Jigalong on the edge of the Little Sandy Desert, and transported halfway across the state to the Native Settlement at Moore River, north of Perth. Here Aboriginal children were instructed in the ways of white society and forbidden to speak their native tongue.

Story
When we talk about human history, we focus on great leaders, mass migration and decisive wars. But how has the Earth itself determined our destiny? How has our planet made us? As a species we are shaped by our environment. Geological forces drove our evolution in East Africa; mountainous terrain led to the development of democracy in Greece; and today voting behaviour in the United States follows the bed of an ancient sea. The human story is the story of these forces, from plate tectonics and climate change, to atmospheric circulation and ocean currents.

Awesome book
- By Kym Angrave on 15-03-2019
Publisher's Summary
Pirriwee Public is a beautiful little beachside primary school where children are taught that 'sharing is caring.' So how has the annual School Trivia Night ended in full-blown riot? Sirens are wailing. People are screaming. The principal is mortified.
And one parent is dead.
Was it a murder, a tragic accident or just good parents gone bad? As the parents at Pirriwee Public are about to discover, sometimes it's the little lies that turn out to be the most lethal. Big Little Lies is a brilliant take on ex-husbands and second wives, mothers and daughters, school-yard scandal, and the dangerous little lies we tell ourselves just to survive.

so entertaining!
what a wonderful wonderful story! the author has captured the dialogue of privileged white women in Australia and their precious children perfectly. I recognised aspects of myself in the story and had to laugh and laugh. She also has tried harder this time to tackle the serious issues that face women. But she can't help but make it politically correct and include the 0.001 percent of men who might face similar situations. The actress brought all of the characters to life and did a fantastic job well done. I thoroughly have enjoyed the journey of the novel. I look forward to watching the movie.

Pity about the narrator
I found story absolutely captivating, however I found the narration by Caroline Lee to be lacklusture and a misrepresentation of the story. Her intonations were often incorrect and I found her character voices to be whiny and a similar voice for each character.
Luckily I could see through the reading and see how good the story actually was.

A monotonous boring listen
I kept waiting for something to happen. You could literally remove 50 chapters from this book, yes 50 as there are over 80 and still not be entertained. The story was predictable and like listening to a whining mothers group with no life. Big thumbs down from me.

Narration irritating, book amazing!
This story is perfection as it weaves its tale, that's if you can stand the narration.
I grimaced often and even left the book after the first chapter because of it.
A good friend told me to persevere and I'm glad I did.
This book would be one you couldn't put down but as an audiobook, this narration is so annoying you can't wait to turn off!

Modern mothers
This was a story based on a group of mothers and the dramas in their lives related to being accepted in their social group. It began by portraying these women as being social butterflies but did develop a more interesting story line as the realities of their lives unfolded. It tackled issues such as violence in the home, bullying and the rather nasty discrimination of community members who condemned a child in a very public way based on the story of one child. The outcome seemed a bit over dramatic and I found it difficult to empathise with these modern mums but some of the characters were memorable. Perhaps a book for those who are mothers.

Audible only downloaded books 2 & 3"
What disappointed you about Big Little Lies?
What a waste of time. I spent one of my credits & was only able to load books 2 & 3. How can you listen to a book in the middle. This has been happening often with Audible. Is it a function of its having been bought by Amazon? In any event don't buy this book unless you want to waste a credit.
What could Liane Moriarty have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
How can I tell until I can read the complete book -- Thanks Audible! :-(
Would you be willing to try another one of Caroline Lee’s performances?
Not until Audible fixes its download system.
What character would you cut from Big Little Lies?

Struggling to get past the 4th chapter
I don't know if it's the simplistic and uninteresting writing style or the annoyingly crackly, broken voice talking to me like I was 8 years old that frustrates me more. I don't usually regard my self as a quitter - but I doubt I will finish this book.

I really really enjoyed this book.
First of all it was read very well and this is to me as important as the content of the book. (I cant listen to a great book that is poorly read).
Big Little Lies was a "page turner" for me and the twist in the story did catch me by surprise.
I loved all the inner dialogues of people, their hidden thoughts and feelings, so human. I most appreciated how the story includes the trivial, the funny and the more profound human fears and joys. I am about to purchase another book of the Liane and hope it is as good as this one.
