The BEST autobiography I’ve read
- By Scott Nicholas on 17-10-2023
Publisher's Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
They called for a break, and Gambon magicked up a cigarette from out of his beard. He and I were often to be found outside the stage door, having 'a breath of fresh air', as we referred to it. There would be painters and plasterers and chippies and sparks, and among them all would be me and Dumbledore having a crafty cigarette.
From Borrower to wizard, Tom Felton's adolescence was anything but ordinary. His early rise to fame saw him catapulted into the limelight aged just twelve when he landed the iconic role of Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films.
Speaking with candour and his own trademark humour, Tom shares his experience of growing up on screen and as part of the wizarding world for the very first time. He tells all about his big break, what filming was really like and the lasting friendships he made during ten years as part of the franchise, as well as the highs and lows of fame and the reality of navigating adult life after filming finished.
Prepare to meet a real-life wizard.

Very well done
Tom Felton's narration of his own experience was heartfelt, brutal and honest. I think I appreciate him ever more now as an entertainer. He should also consider doing more audiobook narrations because I found his style of story telling very engaging. I would absolutely listen to more audiobooks if he narrated them. This was a great listen and I am a little sad I listened to it too fast.

I can’t imagine reading this being as pleasurable as listening to Tom Felton himself speak the words he wrote. It was a wonderful insight into the behind-the-scenes of the wizarding world, and I appreciated the raw honesty on his mental health struggles, and the recap on where he is now. It’s a reminder that “fame isnt everything, is it Mr. Potter?”, and that friendship, love and family are true wealth in this life. Thank you Tom for this wonderful insight into your life!

Entertained and moved
I listened to this because I’m a massive Potter fan and who doesn’t want to hear from one of the cast labour their time making those movies. I absolutely loved all those stories and found myself laughing through a lot of it. What I didn’t expect was the last few chapters of the book where things got really hard for Tom. I loved how honest and open he was. As a person who suffers from mental health issues I feel strongly that by sharing our stories it helps others. It was very courageous and very moving and I’m grateful Tom shared his story.

I really enjoyed listening to the story and being read by Tom himself gives it the just the right feel. Because you know what is funny, what is meant to make you feel sad. Really enjoyed learning about his life and also the differences in him and his character Draco. Will probably be watch the Potter movies again but looking more closely at the parts that were mentioned and intrigued me

Wonderful surprise
I got this audiobook on a whim based on the reviews, I have been stuck in a rut listening to Harry Potter and teen dystopia (my ultimate guilty pleasures) over and over again and I needed to try something new.
I always liked Felton as an actor since seeing him in Anna and the King and he was obviously glorious as Draco Malfoy, he stood out as being more naturally talented than other child actors I had seen, but I never reach for autobiographies. I’m so glad I did!
It is such an easy listen, full of lovely tales and insights into his world. He seems down to earth, naturally funny and he really strikes me as a kind hearted man who has learned from any minor past mistakes to better himself. How he speaks about his family, friends and fellow cast mates is just joyful and so generous… his own autobiography reads like a love letter to those around him who have touched his life… how joyous and refreshing a surprise that was!
I highly recommended this book!

An Honest Introspective Narrated By Author Himself
Tom Felton describes his maturation in a way which will resonate with many. This is the account of somebody who has journeyed from boy to man, and his story is all the more appealing and relatable because many of us are well aware of the main backdrop for much of the narrative. Felton is generous with his praise and tributes, and also quite honest about his own mistakes. It’s a very humble and human narrative which also provides good insights into fame and show business in general.
Contrary to Felton's successful depiction of highly dislikeable wizard, the author reveals himself to be a sensitive and thoughtful man who values people's more noble characteristics, many of which he encountered amongst those he worked alongside during his "Potter" years. I bought the narrated version on Audible and would highly recommend this format as Tom Felton relates his experiences in a very conversational and engaging manner. Can't praise this book enough and one hopes that Felton will go on to enjoy a rewarding adult career in the years that lie ahead.

Wonderful read!
I’m a major Potterhead but I’ve not really read much about Tom Felton. This book was wonderful, especially hearing from one of the main characters with lots of funny stories about the other actors and what it was like during filming.
It was also very heartfelt and moving at times. Tom comes across as a kind, ordinary person who has suffered. You can relate to him and it makes the book even more personal. What a lovely person he seems to be.
I would recommend this book to anyone.

I never write reviews!
This book deserves a review. I found it honest, enlightening and entertaining. I didn't want it to end. Tom's narration is also excellent and keeps perfect pace and tone throughout. This book resonated with me and I hope (and have no doubt) that it will for others.

Phenomenal!
I listened to this on a whim and I was blown away! It was SO good and Tom’s read of the book is spectacular! I must read, even if you’re not a potter fanatic!

Brilliant book
Absolutely loved this book. From learning about Toms life, to behind the scenes of my favourite films… but also about his later life which is raw and emotional. Highly recommend

Funny, interesting, tearful. What a great listen
I enjoyed Tom’s story immensely and his narration is excellent. What an interesting soul and I look forward to hearing more about his life later on (I hope you get to do what you want to do with HP).

A beautiful book
Each chapter coverers different perspectives of Toms life, though each have a theme. The theme of the book is a thank you to everyone would helped him become the man he is. From stories, banter and a unique perspective on his career and relationships Tom is nothing less than gracious and humbled by the influences, from the famous to his family, who have got him to where he is today. This book is heartwarming and beautiful. An easy listen when read by Tom himself. It’s like your have a chat with an old friend.
