Publisher's Summary

DI Nick Dixon is on the hunt for a vicious serial killer, following a trail of fingerprints and DNA across west Somerset.

When the body of a young woman is found on the building site of a nuclear power station, work grinds to a halt. The body bears all the hallmarks of yet another random murder at the hands of the escaped killer. Then Dixon finds a motive.

Fighting for his place on the Major Investigation Team, he soon uncovers a family’s desperate search for the truth, exposing a web of corruption and death that will shake the billion-pound construction project to its very foundations. But who can be trusted when so much money is at stake?

Can Dixon find the killer under intense pressure from the top of government? And, can he do it before anyone else has to die?

Why after 8 books in do they change the narrator ?

Beyond the Point is Book 9 in the DI Nick Dixon series and begins with the same investigation as Book 8 ends. Books 1 - 8 had the same narrator, and whilst I must say that it did take a bit of getting used to the original narrator's timbre and style in Book 1, once I accepted and got used to it I have since sought out more narrations from Napoleon Ryan which I have, along with the DI Nick Dixon series, thoroughly enjoyed to date.

So I can't understand why after 8 Books, Brilliance Audio decide to change the narrator, especially when Napoleon Ryan appears to still be recording other new audio books.

Don't get me wrong, Simon Mattacks does a great job, and the story is as brilliant as ever, however, it would have been better if, after the previous investment in 8 Books, they had continued with Napoleon Ryan as narrator, and no I am not the president of his fan club :-) !!

Where's Napoleon Ryan??

I have really enjoyed this series, but the change of narrator is extremely disappointing.
He's a fine narrator, but after the whole series being done by Napoleon Ryan, it's a big let down.
I hope we can get a version of this book narrated by him in the near future.

Disappointed

I’ve enjoyed the preceding book narrations as five stars. What makes them appealing is their uniquely English aspects. This attempt to make the series more acceptable to an American audience is a flop. A pale imitation of what made the narration of the series great. Fire the US distributor and revert to the UK English narration and vocabulary.

Slow Start, Fine Finish

Seemed like a chase scene, then plot thickened. Good human interest with Monte the dog, and Jane.
Simon Mattacks, my favorite narrator, didn't disappoint.

Great book but not so good narration..

This is a tough one in some ways. As always, Nick Dixon books are awesome. BUT when you’ve listened to 8 of them with the same narrator and then he changes on book 9 it’s hard to figure out if you liked it as much as the others.

According to the story, I did. It started in 1994 (I think) with a man committing suicide, then moves to present day. It’s about a serial killer that finally gets cornered and says he’ll kill his hostage unless he can talk to Dixon. And that where the story really starts. More bad guys showed up and there ended up being a total of 3 and Dixon had to find out who each one was. It was really a good mystery.

No sex and the F-bomb was used 25 times.

As to the narration: Simon Mattacks was barely okay for me. His female voices are pretty bad and he doesn’t read with any emotion. I really, really missed Napoleon Ryan. The last thing he narrated was in May of 2018. I hope that doesn’t mean he’s quit narrating. I mean, if Mr. Ryan wasn't available you could have gotten Luke Daniels or Scott Brick or Eric Dove, or any number of narrators that would have done justice to Dixon and the few women that were in the book.

having changed readers made it hard to follow

Having listened to the first 8 books with the same readers and then changing to one reader on book 9. This made the story hard to follow and unenjoyable.

Another great story

All of Damien Boyd's stories have added interest if you live local to the settings but they are enjoyable even without knowing the area as he is so descriptive with his writing. I like that he follows on the story quickly after the previous one and used mostly the same characters, introducing the new ones as they react with the others dependent on the story line. Beyond The Point takes us on a journey to catch a serial killer with all the expected twists and turns but there are sub plots that reveal themselves as you go along. The poisoning of Monty was a bit of a shock, I will not reveal the outcome of this or the story but would urge anyone who had not read any of Damien's books to do so. My only slight niggle, not with the story but the audio production, is that the narrator had changed from the previous books and it took me a little while to get used to the different style and accents, I soon forgot this as the story progressed.

After listening to the first 8 books, to change the narrator for the last book was really annoying changed the characters voices and narrated like it was a documentary.

Good story

A bit drawn out but I enjoyed it and would listen to more of his books. This was the ninth book in the DI Dixon series and this could account for it being ‘drawn out’. I hope to listen to the other eight.

Excellent narration

I really enjoy this series but went back to normal kindle as the previous narrator was deadpan and lifeless. I decided to give this one a go and it's 100% better.
