Publisher's Summary

DI Nick Dixon is on the hunt for a vicious serial killer, following a trail of fingerprints and DNA across west Somerset.

When the body of a young woman is found on the building site of a nuclear power station, work grinds to a halt. The body bears all the hallmarks of yet another random murder at the hands of the escaped killer. Then Dixon finds a motive.

Fighting for his place on the Major Investigation Team, he soon uncovers a family’s desperate search for the truth, exposing a web of corruption and death that will shake the billion-pound construction project to its very foundations. But who can be trusted when so much money is at stake?

Can Dixon find the killer under intense pressure from the top of government? And, can he do it before anyone else has to die?

Why after 8 books in do they change the narrator ?

Beyond the Point is Book 9 in the DI Nick Dixon series and begins with the same investigation as Book 8 ends. Books 1 - 8 had the same narrator, and whilst I must say that it did take a bit of getting used to the original narrator's timbre and style in Book 1, once I accepted and got used to it I have since sought out more narrations from Napoleon Ryan which I have, along with the DI Nick Dixon series, thoroughly enjoyed to date. So I can't understand why after 8 Books, Brilliance Audio decide to change the narrator, especially when Napoleon Ryan appears to still be recording other new audio books. Don't get me wrong, Simon Mattacks does a great job, and the story is as brilliant as ever, however, it would have been better if, after the previous investment in 8 Books, they had continued with Napoleon Ryan as narrator, and no I am not the president of his fan club :-) !!

Where's Napoleon Ryan??

I have really enjoyed this series, but the change of narrator is extremely disappointing. He's a fine narrator, but after the whole series being done by Napoleon Ryan, it's a big let down. I hope we can get a version of this book narrated by him in the near future.

Disappointed

I’ve enjoyed the preceding book narrations as five stars. What makes them appealing is their uniquely English aspects. This attempt to make the series more acceptable to an American audience is a flop. A pale imitation of what made the narration of the series great. Fire the US distributor and revert to the UK English narration and vocabulary.

I miss the former narrator

Story quality is interesting as usual, BUT the former narrator was so talented and the new narration is just adequate.

wanted more.

i really enjoyed napoleon ryan narrate this roll. He mad nic sound strong and a character that seemed feared, plus well respected. Sad to say in this version he sounds timid.Credit to the narrator he reads very well, its just hard to distinguish between characters. I was looking forward to book 9 and 10.

Narrator is horrible.

I have loved this series, but this narrator makes listening almost unbearable. No change in tone or inflection between characters. Almost as if he was being forced to read aloud in a classroom. I purchased the next book in the series, hoping that the narrator would have improved. I could not get past the first chapter. I have exchanged it for a credit. Either bring back Napoleon. Or get someone who actually knows how to properly narrate rather than read by rote. R. Edwards

Slow Start, Fine Finish

Seemed like a chase scene, then plot thickened. Good human interest with Monte the dog, and Jane. Simon Mattacks, my favorite narrator, didn't disappoint.

Have listened all Dixon books back to back. Hooked. Missing Napoleon Ryan though. Got used to the different voices he portrayed.

Narrator change

Got used to narrator Napoleon Ryan & different voices for female characters. Now one narrator doing all characters. Not so enjoyable. However story excellent as usual.

Another great story

All of Damien Boyd's stories have added interest if you live local to the settings but they are enjoyable even without knowing the area as he is so descriptive with his writing. I like that he follows on the story quickly after the previous one and used mostly the same characters, introducing the new ones as they react with the others dependent on the story line. Beyond The Point takes us on a journey to catch a serial killer with all the expected twists and turns but there are sub plots that reveal themselves as you go along. The poisoning of Monty was a bit of a shock, I will not reveal the outcome of this or the story but would urge anyone who had not read any of Damien's books to do so. My only slight niggle, not with the story but the audio production, is that the narrator had changed from the previous books and it took me a little while to get used to the different style and accents, I soon forgot this as the story progressed.

Up there with the best

I have read quite a few of Damien Boyd’s and this, in my opinion, was the best. The plot was well laid out through out without giving the conclusion too quickly. Loved the listen.
