Publisher's Summary

Vikings meets Frostblood in this romantic historical fantasy stand-alone from author Jessica Leake.

The ancient land of Eirinn is mired in war. Ciara, princess of Mide, has never known a time when Eirinn's kingdoms were not battling for power or Northmen were not plundering their shores.

The people of Mide have always been safe because of Ciara's unearthly ability to control her enemies' minds and actions. But lately a mysterious crow has been appearing to Ciara, whispering warnings of an even darker threat. Although her clansmen dismiss her visions as pagan nonsense, Ciara fears this coming evil will destroy not just Eirinn but the entire world.

Then the crow leads Ciara to Leif, a young Northman leader. Leif should be Ciara's enemy, but when Ciara discovers that he too shares her prophetic visions, she knows he's something more. Leif is mounting an impressive army, and with Ciara's strength in battle, the two might have a chance to save their world.

With evil rising around them, they'll do what it takes to defend the land they love - even if it means making the greatest sacrifice of all.

Glad I discovered this author

I enjoyed both the story and narration performance. I am fascinated by Norse and Celtic mythology, so this was a pleasant discovery. The narrator's voice was the perfect one to tell this enchanting tale. I will look for other books by this author. Definitely worth listening to.

Hidden gem!

This one came as a total surprise and I really loved it! The performance was wonderful and the story was well written. As an Icelander with an Irish mother who grew up on both Norse and Celtic mythology I can say that I was very impressed by the authors knowledge. I’m also very grateful to the author for the care and respect she displayed for Norse and Celtic cultural history in her story.

Good.

This was a good story. There were a few parts I thought detracted from the story e.g. falling in the new sea. I would not listen to it again though as I am not fond of historical fantasy. My problem, not there author’s.

Amazing

I love this book. The narrator having a Irish accent makes it even better. I loved the influence of Celtic and Nordic cultures. ❤️

Amazing story

I recently started an obsession with historical fantasies and this book was great for that, the story is amazing, and at the end the author notes her inspirations as well as which ideas were straight from the history and which were imagined. In terms of the audio, it is read very well by Alana Kerr Collins, I have found several stories that she reads to be similar genres and read well.

trying too hard

I am only part way through this book so I may update this review. The story is compelling enough to continue, but the narrator seems to be trying too hard with keeping a Gaelic accent, though her actual voice is enjoyable. I think the story would move along better if it didn't sound like every. single. word. was a carefully practiced (yet not perfected) attempt to maintain an accent which isn't natural for her. It leads to a very stilted delivery that I find distracting. I just wish the speech flowed more naturally, with her normal Irish(?) accent.

Great performance

This was a great performance sadly the book itself. Is nothing special. Yes the story is steady going but nothing special. It has a love story but nothing deep. Little magic but nothing captervating sorry just was nothing special for me
