Publisher's Summary
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
No one knows you like your sister. She can make you laugh or break your heart with a single word. And no one writes novels like Kristin Hannah, an author who vividly explores the intricate bonds of family and, as Tami Hoag said “touches the deepest, most tender corners of our heart.” Now, in her rich, captivating new book, she creates an indelible portrait of two women, once lost to each other, about to come together in a time of exquisite joy and almost unbearable sadness. Sisters by blood, strangers by choice, each stands at a crossroads, ready to confront the betrayals of the past....
BETWEEN SISTERS
Meghann Dontess is a woman haunted by heartbreak. Twenty-five years ago she was forced to make a terrible choice, one that cost her everything, including the love of her sister, Claire. Now, Meghann is a hotshot divorce attorney who doesn’t believe in intimacy - until she meets the one man who can change her mind.
Claire Cavenaugh has fallen in love for the first time in her life. As her wedding day approaches, she prepares to face her harsh, judgmental older sister and their self-absorbed mother. It is the first time they have been together in more than two decades. Over the course of a hot Pacific Northwest summer, these three women who believe they have nothing in common will try to become what they never were: a family.
Tender, funny, bittersweet, and wonderfully moving, Between Sisters celebrates the joys and heartaches that can only be shared by sisters, the mistakes made in the name of love and the healing power of new beginnings - all beautifully told by acclaimed author Kristin Hannah.

Fantastic!
The narrator did a fantastic job bringing this book to life. I've read a couple books by this author and I must say, I really enjoyed this particular novel. There are a couple sentimental and tearful scenes, of course. I thought that the complicated relationship between the sisters was very realistic mainly due to the fact that no relationship is ever perfect. My favorite character throughout the book was Meghan. She is such a strong independent female character. Her view towards men after her divorce was quite harsh, especially after I learned that it was basically her fault the relationship ended in the first place.
What made this novel unique is that it mostly revolved around the relationship of these two sisters, who were born from the same mother, by different fathers, and both ending up living different lives and facing different struggles.

Classic Hannah Pre-Nightingale
I picked up 'Between Sisters' for $4.95 on one of Audible's wonderful sales. I wasn't a big fan of 'The Nightingale,' (probably the only person who didn't like it), so it was very refreshing to read an old school book by Hannah.
Between Sisters deals with older sister Megan, a detached woman in her early 40s who is married to her job as an attorney. She has no friends, no real relationships, and although she's rich she is also extremely lonely.
Megan and her sister Claire were raised by a very selfish mother. Claire knows her father while Megan does not know hers, and the sisters are pretty much estranged. When Claire announces that she is getting married and wants Megan to attend the wedding, things get messy. Megan agrees and travels to Claire's town of Hayden, where she meets a stranger she actually develops feelings for..
Between Sisters is classic Hannah- a chick lit, dramatic tear-jerker. I pretty much loved it, like all of her 'oldies.' It's what I expected and wanted.

I loved this audible book.
Would you consider the audio edition of Between Sisters to be better than the print version?
I did not get the print version.
What did you like best about this story?
It had a little laughter, a few tears, a little romance and a story about how the past experiences influences the present life decisions.
Have you listened to any of Laural Merlington’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
If you could take any character from Between Sisters out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Claire and Megan.
Any additional comments?
Good listening

Unmitigated schmaltz
So disappointed in this book. It would fit in the romance genre more than contemporary fiction - but I wouldn't even qualify this as a good romance. The plot was so sickly sentimental and totally predictable that I can't believe I actually bothered to finish it.
I like books that explore human relationships, but the relationships in this story were underdeveloped. Instead, the author wastes too many pages on side issues that are unessential to the plot - like Meg's legal cases and descriptions of wedding dresses. There is no development of the romance between Claire and Bobby - they meet and all of a sudden they're getting married. And Meg and Joe are even worse - they just fall into bed!
Toward the end, the book could have ventured more into the issues around assisted dying, (which wasn't yet legal in Washington state when the book was published), but again, the plot is not fleshed out and so that bit of the story falls flat. And as a Canadian used to universal health care, I was completely disgusted by the 'lifestyles of the rich and famous' segment that has Meg traipsing around the country buying Claire a cure that would have been impossible for the vast majority of Americans.
I rarely complain about a narrator, but this one just ground on my nerves, with her lispy little-girl voice for Allison and the laughable southern accent for Claire and Meg's mother.
I've enjoyed some of Hannah's books but they're not consistent. I'll read the reviews carefully before reading another.

American cheese fest!!!
I have listened to a couple of books by Kristin Hannah and quite enjoyed them, there were a few bits which I found cheesy but overall an entertaining listen. This book however really made me cringe in places,I found it very predictable, pretty unbelievable and with the American hero saving the day it just about topped off the cheese fest!!!, If you love American slush this is the book for you, unfortunately I really didn’t enjoy it.
