Publisher's Summary

Ophelia Lang needs money, and she needs it bad. Her parents' restaurant is going under, and ever since she lost her job teaching third grade elementary, scraping enough cash together to pay the bills has proven almost impossible. Her parents are on the brink of losing their home. The vultures are circling overhead. So when Ophelia is offered an interview for a well-paid private tutoring gig in New York, how can she possibly say no?

Ronan Fletcher is far from the overweight, balding businessman Ophelia expected him to be. He's young, handsome, and wealthy beyond all reason. He's also perhaps the coldest, rudest person she's ever met, and has a mean streak in him a mile and a half wide. A hundred grand is a lot of money, however, and if tolerating his frosty temperament, his erratic mood swings and whatever else he throws at her means she'll get paid, then that is what Ophelia will do.

Her new boss is keeping secrets, though. Awful, terrible secrets.

The ghosts of Ronan Fletcher's past are about to turn Ophelia's future upside down, and she can't even see it coming.

Between Here and the Horizon is a brand new standalone contemporary romance novel from USA Today best-selling author, Callie Hart. Between Here and the Horizon does contain some scenes of violence and sexual content, and so is directed at audience 18+.

What a surprise!

By the blurb, I was NOT prepared for this book. I was ready to shut it down after 20 minutes because I was so surprised at how things were playing out but the narration was great so I stuck it out and I'm SO GLAD I DID!

The storyline was so intense and fast paced, it felt like a short book. I was sucked in and couldn't wait to see how things would play out. There are a lot of twists and turns and every single one, I was glad to be listening to.

Julia Farmer had an excellent pace and her voices were easily distinguishable. I really enjoyed her narration.

All I can say is...

I have never actually written a review on Audible, just left ratings for each book I listened to. I've read and listened to A LOT of books. I have NEVER read or listened to a book that threw me off my rocker right out of the gate. Seriously, barely into listening to this I was thinking "What the ever-loving eff just happened?! And where the heck is this going?!" Pure unadulterated curiosity kept me going after that. Gotta say, kudos to you, Callie Hart, this book was definitely worth the credit.

A UNIQUE & ENJOYABLE JOURNEY OF REDEMPTION & LOVE

This is my first Callie Hart book.. but it won't be my last because it was a riveting journey to get lost in as this tender love story unfolded. Ophelia thought she'd had a terrible interview with her prospective new boss who needed a Nanny to look after his two children for six months while he wrote a book. However, the brash cold businessman made her an offer she couldn't refuse.. and to save her parent's restaurant Ophelia travelled to a small island off the coast of Maine to look after an adorable little girl and a withdrawn little boy who'd tragically lost their Mother the year before. But the tragedy wouldn't end there because more tragedy and more shocks awaited Ophelia.. as well as eventually finding the love of her life.

You think you know how the story will go.. but very quickly Callie Hart pulls the rug out from under your feet with a shocking WTF twist that'll send you reeling.. and from then on secrets are uncovered, friends are made, a soul is saved from his self-imposed isolation and misery and a sweet family unit is tentatively formed. It'll be emotionally hard work for Ophelia.. but she'll hit gold in the end.

The writing was descriptive, the main characters were likeable and didn't do stupid things that would muddy the waters for themselves, the plot was unique and well developed and the romance blossomed from angry remarks, witty banter, heated words and frustrated feelings.. into a strong love that would eventually lead to an unconventional but tight family unit. The getting there would be fraught with emotional pitfalls but these two lovers managed to navigate around each one beautifully, underwent some major character transformation along the way.. and reaped the rewards because of it. Told from Ophelia's POV but with some flashbacks to the hero's brave and selfless actions in Afghanistan as remembered by him. Could've had a bit more chemistry and sex scenes which would've made it a 5 star listen for me. Good narration too.

Worth a credit? Yes.. a character driven plot of two people thrown together by circumstances out of their control, who bravely rallied, adapted, went beyond duty, found love and made a beautiful future for themselves.. and for two lovely children.

Awesome story

I must say I was so entertained by this audiobook! When the story begins, the heroine Ophelia (an out of work school teacher) is looking for a job in California without any luck. She gets an interview for a six month nanny position in New York with a handsome man who is searching for a nanny while he says he’s going to write a book. She returns home thinking she’d never be offered the job, but an envelope arrives and she accepts. After traveling back to start her new job, she finds out from the man who picks her up that the job isn’t in NYC, but on a remote island off the coast of Maine. When she’s finally delivered to the island by ferry she’s exhausted and it’s very late. Her new boss shows her to her room and she will meet her charges in the morning.
Then the story changes in a startling way. There is a sudden plot twist that I wasn’t expecting that changes the entire course of the story! I don’t want to give any spoilers, but the rest of the story is emotional and fast paced. The heroine has to do things she didn’t expect she’d ever do, a new complex character comes into the story and I just couldn’t stop listening. There is a HEA ending. Narration was excellent. Well worth spending a credit on!

Can I do 0 stars.

I can’t even describe how bad, incredibly ridiculous, unbelievably unbelievable this book is. From the very first I disliked the protag. Her hostile, childish whiny behavior in the “interview” for the job of nanny,of which took about 20 min, was off-putting. The whole scenario was just a poor start. It just went down hill, this is only like chapter 5-6!! I dont think revealing events that happen so soon could be a “spoiler alert”. So a girl known for 20 min in an interview, is then made guardian of your children, after your suicide, at a house on an island, she’s been at for a few hours. The letter left, stating how much he thought about it and how perfect she would be. WHAT THE HELL?! Sorry that was enough wasted time and brain cells. Nothing could redeem this mess.

plot line with a twist - DON'T READ SPOILERS

Don't read any reviews because you don't want to spoil it. I loved the story and the hero...heroine was a bit annoying.
Overall I can't remember the last time when I was so surprised with a twist in a book. It comes around 19% so just enjoy it...

Pleasant and Gripping Surprise!

Seamless performance of an unexpected plot line replete with emotion, adequate but not excessive angst, and enough twists and turns to keep the reader interested and guessing. This is the type of novel that makes you happy to don your wireless headphones and do the dishes or laundry instead of sitting down to your favorite television show, it is just that good!

Overall 3.75 stars Beautiful and Heartbreaking

Where to begin? This book has left me with my thoughts all over the place so I'll do my best to put it in words. The story between the main characters was like fire and ice, at least in the beginning. I liked the H alot and when we finally get the whole story about the past it solidified how I felt about his character. The h was also likable if not really pushy when at times it felt she did not have the right to know the answers she was seeking at that moment. The kids were amazing and I looked forward to see what they were up to. Now the part that I struggled with, the twist at the beginning. Not because it was shocking but because it didn't make sense. I thought it would after the journal was read but that didn't happen. Since we never get to see how that relationship developed or the intensity of it the twist at the beginning at least for me never felt like it went with this otherwise beautiful story.
Narrator was really good. I especially liked her voice for the little girl. Though I was confused that Ronin had a slight accent and Sully didn't.

Wow!!! Great story 💗

Very different beginning, Callie Hart blew me away with the twist but I couldn't help feel angry at Ronan!
