Publisher's Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The undefeated heavyweight champion, in his own words.

Read by Pound for Pound’s Jake Wood, with an introduction read by Tyson Fury.

The UK's bestselling boxing book since records began.

The extraordinary story of the rise and fall and rise again of Tyson Fury....

The gypsy king.

A Manchester lad from Irish Traveller stock, born three months premature and weighing just a pound at birth, Tyson (named after his father’s boxing hero) grew up to become one of the most unlikely heavyweight champions in history. This ‘dream come true’ soon turned to nightmare, however, as alcohol and cocaine abuse took hold and Tyson was stripped of his titles. What followed was the darkest moment of his life – detailed in this book for the first time – in which he came within seconds of ending everything.

The people’s champion.

Like all the greatest stories, though, there is redemption and Tyson defies all the odds and literally drags himself to his feet. Ten million people around the globe watched Fury fight Wilder in the biggest fight of the boxing calendar. Speaking candidly about his struggles with mental health, this is Tyson Fury as you have never heard him before.

A British icon.

Behind the Mask is an unflinching autobiography from the greatest boxer of our time and a man who has demonstrated strength of a very different kind by conquering his demons.

Critic Reviews

"Tyson Fury is an amazing real-life champion." (Sylvester Stallone)

"I didn’t believe boxers could be role models, but Tyson Fury has changed my mind...This 30-year-old Mancunian has made us all think twice about the possibilities of redemption." (Simon Kelner, Independent)

"Tyson Fury has become Britain’s most unlikely inspirational figure...the sight of a broken Fury caught a mood with the public. Never was the epitaph 'People’s Champion' more apt." (Ron Lewis, The Times)

Good read

Interesting though I think it'll be more interesting when he meets Wilder again in number 3. If he keeps fit and trains solidly for it he'll beat Wilder and Joshua. I love how he always gives praise and glory to Jesus after each match. That's pretty awesome. Myself being someone who also suffers from depression I really appreciated his brutal honesty about his struggle with it too. As a person outside the ring he's definitely gone up the ranks in my books. Recommend.

One sided and paint by numbers.

Sure. Tyson has an interesting life but this book is rote and runs through it like a paint by numbers story. Completely one sided, though a good drinking game opportunity everytime he says “he couldn’t cope with me”.

The greatest heavyweight of our time

Tyson Furys story is one for the ages. A story of the unwitting hero who wasn't supposed t be where he was but through unyielding faith, determination and application rose above all.

An amazing story.

I just wish it Was Mr Fury reading it.

Excellent audiobook!

I’ve listened to a number of audio books and this is definitely one of the best (if not the best)! Great story, clear narration, a must listen for all boxing fans to gather insight into the mind of the heavyweight champion. Highly recommended.

Amazing!

Would recommend this book to anyone. Gives a great insight into his career and his battle with mental health. You don’t need to be a boxing fan to enjoy this. Loved every minute of it.

Terrible delivery in 10 word staccato bursts.

Jake Wood's delivery was disappointing. The story didn't reveal much beyond his fight record I like Fury but this was a waste of a credit.

Too much credit to God

It's good, but Tyson gives credit to God for almost anything that's ever happened to him. If you're not a religious person you might find it difficult to listen to the whole thing. Very good overall nonetheless.

Story review

I’m a massive Fury fan and did enjoy this book but massively disappointed that a lot of the details of important milestones in his career were not touched upon for example his split with Peter and Mick Hennessy. What happened with Peter Fury and why do they not speak anymore? Also the whole PED issue, it was just quickly touched on and not elaborated upon. I just think the full truth was not reflected in this book.

Outstanding.

I've never written a review. Like ever. But this book is hands down the best book I've ever listened to. Such an inspirational man, and it help me and I know it will help others. Like tyson said "if a fat man who ate all the pies can do it" so can you. Motivational in a different but incredible way!

Shame it isn’t narrated by Tyson!

Shame it isn’t narrated by Tyson him self, kind of ruins the whole experience of listening to it from his point of view. Makes it sound like any bodies story. Little disappointed.
