Publisher's Summary

Azeroth is dying.

The Horde and the Alliance defeated the demonic Burning Legion, but a dire catastrophe is unfolding deep below the surface of the world. There is a mortal wound in the heart of Azeroth, struck by the sword of the fallen titan Sargeras in a final act of cruelty.

For Anduin Wrynn, king of Stormwind, and Sylvanas Windrunner, warchief of the Horde and queen of the Forsaken, there is little time to rebuild what remains and even less to mourn what was lost. Azeroth's devastating wound has revealed a mysterious material known as Azerite. In the right hands, this strange golden substance is capable of incredible feats of creation; in the wrong ones, it could bring forth unthinkable destruction.

As Alliance and Horde forces race to uncover the secrets of Azerite and heal the wounded world, Anduin enacts a desperate plan aimed at forging a lasting peace between the factions. Azerite jeopardizes the balance of power, and so Anduin must gain the trust of Sylvanas. But, as ever, the Dark Lady has her own machinations.

For peace to be possible, generations of bloodshed and hatred must be brought to an end. But there are truths that neither side is willing to accept and ambitions they are loath to relinquish. As Alliance and Horde alike grasp for the Azerite's power, their simmering conflict threatens to reignite all-out war - a war that would spell doom for Azeroth.

fantastic story. really great fun and perfect

Really well done. Very well voiced and entertaining. Excellent story, such a good bridge and insight to the revelations in game, or for a good "in the feels" read if you don't play and do like high fantasy.

Pleasantly surprised

Played WoW since 2004 and this was my first ever written story. Christie is almost (almost) Ann Rice-esque in the descriptive and emotional nature of her story telling and I found myself genuinely moved (sometimes to tears) by the most surprising narratives. It's not necessary to have been a fan of the World from the start, but you will be well rewarded if you are.

This has one of the weakest story and plot lines.

Even as a WOW fan this book left me salty and unsatisfied, it literally didn't go anywhere and the plot line was unbelievably weak.... all in all a book simply to make money.

Excellent voice acting, great story for fans

An impressive reading and voice acting performance. The story is great, but I suspect as an avid Warcraft player and lore lover I might be biased.

As a avid player of World of Warcraft, I find this book was brilliantly written by Christie and personally I think Josh portrayed the characters perfectly and his voice acting is fantastic.

Brilliant

Loved this. Josh Keaton brings life to the characters with his voice, and Christie Golden's writing is brilliant despite the nonsensical crap Blizzard hands her as guide lines. She really turns the mess into a legible and enjoyable story. She's a bloody magician honestly.

Pleasantly surprised

I've not listened to any of the Warcraft audiobooks so I confess I was a little perturbed at the start by characters sounding like they were from Brooklyn but, it actually works. The performance by Keaton grew on me, probably partially as a result of more characters and accents being introduced as the story unfolds. As for the storyline it keeps you intrigued and whilst there's no mass brawl I was keen each time to pick up where I left off. Definitely recommend this and I will return to the genre once I'll got through some other tomes in my audible library

Beautiful

This is the second World of Warcraft book I havnt listened to. I was blown away by how much life the narrator provided to each of the characters. The voice acting was sublime, coupled with the brief segments of orchestral music at the start of each chapter I found my self fully involved in the story. There is one chapter that moved me deeply. Physically bringing me to tears. It resonated with me on a personal level having felt the same level of distress as the Anduin. Highly recommend this book, even for those who are not familiar with the lore of Warcraft. Each character is introduced in such a way that even someone with no knowledge can engage and relate to them

Fantastic and unrivalled

I have never had the desire before to listen to an audiobook and after countless advertisements for Audible I thought it only fair to give it a go before casting judgement. Since 2008, I have been an active fan of World of Warcraft and its expansive lore and thought it best to start my Audiobook library off with a story leading up to the events of the latest expansion. Upon my first listen I was immediately engrossed in the performance of Josh Keaton and the astounding story produced by Christie Golden. When Josh would speak as the many characters in the book, I felt that each was sincere and had been given a great thought. Throughout the book it became obvious who was talking based on the amazing voice acting. I became obsessed with the story, itching to listen to more and more. The audiobook took over most commutes and long rainy days indoors and now that it is finished I am aching to have more from Christie Golden (with Josh Keaton, of course). I will likely return to this Audiobook in time as the story creates an atmosphere that I would always wish to be immersed in and for that I cannot recommend it enough.
