Critic Reviews

Quite simply the best debut novel I've ever read. (Tess Gerritsen)
Brilliant in its pacing, profound in its central question, suspenseful on every page - and satisfying in its thriller ending. (Anita Shreve)
A deft, perceptive exploration of a fascinating neurological condition, and a cracking good thriller. (Lionel Shriver)
A terrific first novel - well-written, genuinely unsettling and psychologically very plausible. Thrillers seldom come much better than this. Loved it, read it in one (Joanne Harris)
An exceptional thriller. It left my nerves jangling for hours after I finished the last page (Dennis Lehane)
So high-concept, so ambitious and so structurally brilliant. It's so rare to read a thriller that's perfect in every detail, but this one definitely qualifies! (Sophie Hannah)
A deeply unsettling debut that asks the most terrifying question - what do you have left when you lose yourself? (Val McDermid)
A truly amazing debut. The central character, Christine, is beautifully drawn. It's hard to imagine a more compelling, believable and sympathetic portrayal of a damaged human being. I loved it from start to finish. (Mo Hayder)

Book has an engaging story line and paced enough to keep you wanting to listen more. The twist is an oldie but well executed. I enjoyed this book

I really enjoyed this story. The character of Christine was complex and gripping. The narrator Susannah Harker was brilliant and I am looking to find her other narrations. The whole story was suspenseful and I must say I enjoyed it better than Gone Girl.

Listened to it before I went to Sleep

I disliked how slowly it built up to what the story was about. I liked how the end brought it all together. I disliked that it was left open ended. But I liked that it felt realistic.

Wow. Just wow. This was a masterpiece!

This is the kind of story that takes you into an world other than your own, so that afterwards, it feels like something you have actually experienced as well as a tale heard told. In this way it is a bit like 'When I find you' by Emma Curtis - also a fabulous book, with a daring premise. Inevitably there were repetitions in 'Before I go to sleep', but the the writer was really disciplined in managing this aspect of a complicated plot and time framing. I did guess what was going on at about three quarters, but interestingly there were still sub-twists and observations that kept me hanging out for the resolution. The very ending was incredibly corny I suppose, but again, I couldn't begrudge it and it doesn't really affect the lasting impression of the story. Really solid writing.

Unforgettable
