About this listen

Raymond Bannister is a wealthy man living a secure life, but the day that he receives a single slipper in an envelope his world falls apart. He seeks out a place in the bad part of town—is he looking for his own demise? He is found slashed down in a dirty alleyway. The crime and the crime scene are inexplicable to Lestrade, and he seeks the help of his new consultant detective, Mr. Sherlock Holmes. This beginning will lead us back in time, to India, and it will lead us to the strange origin of a group of children that call themselves the Irregulars. Is the answer to this case also the answer to the big question—who is Sherlock Holmes? Meanwhile the emotions between Missy Hudson and John Watson are stirring, as a certain Mary Morstan seeks the help of Sherlock. A mysterious and cruel new player has entered the London underworld, his signature is just the letter M.

Fabulous interpretation of Holmes’ story

Can’t fault these, imaginatively reimagined in a not too distant and not impossible possible future, they still capture the Victorian atmosphere of the originals whilst giving our familiar characters new versions of what their lives could be. Bloody great!

Even better than the 1st book...

Another new iteration of the iconic, beloved, and brilliant Arthur Conan-Doyle character proves yet again just how timeless Holmes truly is. This reinvention is clever, endearing, frustrating and remarkable for the same reasons but thoroughly intriguing for others. A smart concept, snapped to life by this talented writer. I loved this 2nd instalment even more than the 1st and cannot wait to listen to the 3rd. Sarah's solo venture into expanding THIS Holme's story and world is all a die-hard Sherlockian could hope for. Being set in the not to distant future and semi-dystopian, which is sadly not too great a stretch of the imagination these days, creates endless potential plot twists and turns. The Becoming Sherlock series is thrilling, heart-warming, clever, and engaging. This 2nd book sees all characters developing and growing on the reader, provides greater insight into the 'new world' order setting, and is building the familiar base of support for the classic Holmes brilliance but with an updated and reinvented support cast. I highly recommend these books regardless of whether you're a lover of Holmes or not.
