Who says you can’t go home again?

Philadelphia real estate broker Devyn Winters is at the peak of her career, closing multi-million dollar deals and relishing it. She’s pretty much blocked out her formative years in Dreamer’s Bay, where the most exciting thing to happen was the twice a year bake sale. Unfortunately, a distress call hauls her back home and away from the life she’s constructed. Now the question is just how long until she can leave again? And when did boring Elizabeth Draper get so beautiful?

Elizabeth Draper loves people, free time, and a good cup of coffee in the warm sunlight. In the quaint town of Dreamer’s Bay, she’s the only employee of "On the Spot", an odd jobs company. She remembers Devyn Winters as shallow in high school, but now everything about Devyn makes her lose focus. Though her brain knows Devyn is only home temporarily, her heart didn’t seem to get the memo.

Wonderful book by my fav author and least fav narrator.

If you see this Ms. Brayden, this is a fantastic book. Please bring back Felicity Munroe.

This is a classic Melissa Brayden story. It ranks up there with Sweeter than Chocolate, Just Three Words, and, Waiting in the Wings, in my opinion. I thought it was going to be predictable a few times, but I was pleasantly surprised along the way. It’s similar to Sweeter than Chocolate, with the two leading ladies very similar to Jordan and Molly, but different story all together.

My thoughts on Melissa Sternenburg... she has this terrible tendency to make one of her characters sound like a young girl. Elizabeth sounds better then her rendition of Hadley Cooper (I couldn’t listen to the 4th Seven Shores book due to this), but still. It’s hard to get fully taken away by the story when one of the MCs sounds like she’s 11. I wholly miss Ms. Munroe and her voice for characters like Jessica and Hope from the SOHO Series 😏.

If you love Brayden like I do, this story is adorable.

Loved it!

Great story with a super sweet ending. my only issue is the narrator's high pitched voice. I've heard this narrator several times by now and it reminds me of the Chippettes and that takes away from the story for me... silly complaint. loved both main characters and really enjoyed the book.

I didn't miss the awkward shunning of the couple.

I enjoyed this book. I was prepared for cruelty directed at the main characters and when I finally accepted that wasn't going to happen I was pleased. listening and reading through a new prism.

story ruined by the narater

drawn by the high rating on goodread. I tried very hard to listen but the narater is not doing her job well by distinguished characters.

Decent

The story was decent. Started slow in the beginning and the ending seemed too quick. The reader was the worst I've ever heard though.

I tried. I really tried.

This book is one of Melissa Brayden’s best, certainly her best in years. After I read the kindle version I wasn’t happy to see that the narrator for the audiobook was once again Melissa Sternenberg, but I finally caved and decided to give it a shot. I made it a good 6 hours before I gave it up.

I have a few reasons why I don’t care for her performances, and they were all present here. Firstly, the narration was so super exuberant that I had to lower the volume several times at different points because it felt like she was yelling in my ear. When Melissa reads emotional scenes, her approach isn’t to artfully act them out - she just gets loud and frantic. Like “THIS IS THE PART WHERE THE CHARACTER HAS LOTS OF FEELINGS DO YOU GET IT!” She already has a high-pitched, youthful voice to begin with, so that habit doesn’t do her any additional favors.

When she’s not doing the emotional scenes, her reading and cadence is overly peppy, as if she’s on a steady diet of happy pills. The problem is, the pep steamrolls right over the beats and nuances (and humor) that make this book excellent fiction. It also means she doesn’t really give the characters any honest personality. She fails to capture Elizabeth’s wit, warmth, and quirkiness. In her hands Elizabeth comes across as a cheerful Mary Sue, which is unfortunate because she’s actually got much more depth than that.

I think Melissa would be an excellent narrator for children’s or YA books, where the pep and exuberance is more fitting. The best narrators for adult literature know when to rein it in and focus on the character and story beats.

I really miss Felicity Munroe. Now there is a top notch voice actor who really locked in on Melissa Brayden’s style and characters. She always made listening to Brayden’s books an absolute pleasure. I’m not sure why that professional relationship broke down but I would jump for joy if she resumed her role as Brayden’s go-to narrator.

Cute

The story was cute and the characters very likeable, even the mum. The narrator did a good job with all the voices and accents.

Like most romances, it was very predictable, which is fine. My only quibble was that it got a little too cheesy in parts and the ending drug out a bit too far.

I do look forward to her next book and hearing the narrator again.

Have to agree with reviews

I have to agree with other reviews re the high pitched voice of the character Elizabeth. She does sound like a child. Awkward! The character is actually annoying also and the chemistry between the two leads therefore doesn’t work. There’s not much to the story, not one of the authors finest books. Disappointing.
